I have just noticed that since HTV started using modified carlton idents, HTV have lost all regional branding for it's own programmes.

Instead of saying 'tonight at 9 on HTV' they now say 'tonight at 9 on ITV1' with the htv url.  This is a bit misleading, surely viewers in the Central region don't see the ferret on health (a very good programme considering it's made by HTV Wales) or Your Century about Maesteg??

Ah well, yet another nail in regional ITV's Coffin!

By the time the current blue and yellow itv (or itv1 as it now is) logo replaced the old ITV with a triangle in the V, Carlton had already bought Central and Westcountry (but not yet renamed them).

From the day the blue and yellow itv logo launched in 1998, all reference to the region name on programme promotions and break bumpers ceased in the Midlands (and I presume also in the South West as this must be standard Carlton policy).

Bizarrely, this even included promos for programmes that will only be shown in the Central region (e.g. 'that's Central Weekend, Friday night at 10:40 on ITV' - Central Weekend is controversial topical-debate show). Again I assume ditto for Westcountry.

Almost exactly 1 year later, Central and Westcountry became Carlton and Carlton. I would expect non-TV logos-enthusiasts to have barely noticed, as the change only really has effected the continuity junctions leading straight into the start of programmes. Everthing else was ITV style before September 1999, and still is now!

So, it's no surprise that as well as Carltonising the HTV logo, Carlton have also dropped use of any region name (whether it be 'HTV' or 'Carlton') from ads and break bumpers, in favour of 'ITV'/'ITV1'.

I wouldn't take nostradamus to have predicted they'd do it, it was just a question of 'when?'... Smile

after 17 years of welsh branded television programmes, tommrow I shall be installing a new aerial and having it point towards England.

Although if I get fed up of watching Channel 4, I might go back to S4C! Wink

Where exactly do you live? Wales or England?

Which English TV will you recieve? HTV West and BBC West? Carlton Central (West) and BBC Midlands? Granada and BBC North West?

Heres a map of where I live. I live on the edge of Wales, and I can pick up around 4 regional tv networks.

Carlton Westcountry
HTV West
RTE & other Irish channels
BBC One
BBC One Wales
BBC Two
BBC Two Wales
HTV Wales
S4C
Channel 4
Channel 5

But since 1998 (when my big aerial blew down) I haven't been able to get a very good picture from Ireland.

I live in Exhall, near Coventry (which is the West Midlands, but Exhall's in Warwickshire). Exhall is just a sub-area of a place called Bedworth, which itself is essentially a sub-area of Nuneaton despite the fact that it's called 'Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough'.
