Aside from increasingly using regional reporters on ITV1/ITVNC bulletins, it seems to imply the overall look will be similar - in the same way as BBC News' national and regional presentation is. Give it a couple of years and we'll see bulk default sets, samey title sequences, 'regional' names (rather than company (Granada) or established (Calendar) names) and intergrated news bulletins - still with bad opt-out timings, no doubt.

Some say 12 others say 13 - who is correct and how do they include HTV?

Those who say 13 are probably counting HTV West & HTV Wales as individual companies, which they're not.

This where it gets confusing. Because whataday you are correct that they are one company BUT they operate TWO separate franchises!

So I suppose 12 or 13 is correct depending on how they phrase it!

From itv.com (http://www.itv.com/news/1695901.html)

Granada owns seven ITV franchises - Granada Television, London Weekend Television, Yorkshire Television, Tyne Tees Television, Anglia Television, Meridian Broadcasting and Border Television.

Carlton Television owns the licence in five regions - London & LNN, Central, West Country, HTV West and HTV Wales.

They do not operate two separate franchises. They are one company with one franchise. HTV has a remit to operate two distinct programme services, which effectively makes HTV West and HTV Wales two seperate stations, but they are not technically separate - there couldn't for instance be a situation where West and Wales are run by different companies.

Do we reckon ITV1 Carlton regional ident will now be ITV1 Central and ITV Westcountry when merge happens?

HTV only have one franchise. You could say that HTV Wales and HTV West are sub regions really.

Be interesting to see new production (end boards do you call them?) graphics at the end of local news. Will we all get new ones. Wonder what new merger will be called

Felicity has been extremely good.

She asked this question. for TV Forum users I presume: "What about the regional identity of the itv regions? We're all used to watching Meridian, HTV etc. Will this affect the regional identity?" Don't know where she has been for the last few years, but never mind. Very Happy

Yes Felicity Barr was very good on the News Channel. ITV were first with the news by the way. Sky News were still showing their ident. BBC News 24 just looked dull

The list of ITV regions she kept reading out was obviously adlibbed, so she obviously knows her stuff "So Nina what about HTV, Meridian, Westcountry etc" she kept saying

I expect SMG, UTV and Channel would have something to say about that.

ITV plc would seem to be their first choice alright, though I also suspect calling the company Granada plc will be the second choice. Particularly if it is not just television.

And I wouldn't be surprised, if they do go with ITV, if the name is not changed back to Granada after the first AGM. There is precendents - when Vodafone acquired Airtouch, they became Vodafone Airtouch for about six months before changing back to Vodafone Group. BP acquired Amoco, became BP Amoco, then changed back to BP.

good news for UTV, Scottish, Grampian and Channel: one of the agreed terms of the merger is that the non-Carlton/Granada braodcasters get a clean feed from London.
