Oh yes, how *dare* they show what the majority of viewers want to see. Like it or lump it, programmes like You've Been ******* Framed - despite being awful - get viewers. Why should they drop such programmes when they prove to be so popular? I'm sorry but ITV1 is still the most popular commercial channel on British TV, so they must be doing something right.

Erm - actually, the programmes they should show more ALSO get viewers.

So as a viewer who DOESN'T want wall-to-wall Corrie, Emmerdale and YBF, I'd be arrogant because only the viewers who DO should be getting catered for?

There I was thinking that ITV had a remit to deliver programmes for all cross-sections of the community, rather than just one... how selfish of me.

Mind you, there HAVE been some rare gems - but they ARE too rare. Perhaps if they were ON MORE, in SOCIABLE hours ... they'd GET MORE VIEWERS.....? Simple equation, work it out... As a spokesman for T.A.P.E., a consultancy charged with the task of finding out why "Neighbours" was so successful, the conclusion was this - "because it's on at tea-time, and you can show ANYTHING at tea-time regularly and build up a family loyalty". He went on to say it was nothing to do with the content of Neighbours at all. Just the time. FACT > People take what they're given. FACT 2 > People who take what they're given end up liking what they're given. FACT 3 > When people stumble across better programmes at odd times, they wonder why such programmes aren't shown in primetime. FACT 4 > Such people who have discovered Fact 3 are not listened to by ITV's controllers or anybody else. FACT 5 > Advertisers ARE listened to by ITV's controllers and everybody else.

Ant & Dec are good presenters, so is Davina et all but why must the station have the same presenters all time?

ITV has got very lazy over the last two years, rehashing old programmes and making them worse: Crossroads and Blind Date, more imports: Animals do the funniest things, Dragnet, more soap and more cheap and nasty reality TV. Thankfully viewers are beginning to see that there really is nothing on ITV at present.

I was reading the history of LWT on TCB yesterday which was talking about LWT's early days when they were pumping out crap, the regions opted out at peak time to put on there on programmes... Shame it can't happened today.

Not correct, ITV's viewing figures year on year are holding up and they still dominate during prime time. Daytime is ITV's achilles heel at the moment.

I hate to drag this down the Crossroads alleyway but ITV can be blamed because they dropped the axe.

But if the show had got the ratings/viewing figures it was meant to get then ITV wouldnt have had a reason to axe it - so basically the reason for the axe is the poor quality of the show.

I agree that Emmerdale should be cut down to maybe 3 or 4 nights a week - next week both Emmerdale and Coro St are back to their usual nbr of episodes (Em - 5 eps and Coro St - 4 eps). But the reason ITV think its acceptable to screen them up to 6 nights a week some weeks is because they pull in the viewers.

Co-incidentally, Thirtysomething is being moved to 11.00pm on Saturdays, and Judgement Day's been scrapped altogether.

I've put a Tenner on Steve Irwin getting pulled as well (from the schedule that is Wink )

It must be annoying for fans of these programs to find them moved around the schedule just because they get poor viewing figures

The Sketch Show thread already has a discussion going on about those weekend changes.

Back to Barbara, people complain that ITV often flog dead horses with programmes and keep them past their prime. Therefore if Barbara is axed in its prime, just like many comedies in the past, isn't this a good thing. You'd all be complaining if Barbara was rehashing old jokes 5 years down the line.

See people can rant on both, whatever ITV choose to do

YOU WHAT ??!!?!!! Judjement day's the only gud thing on on Saturday. Brian Conley is hilarious they can't axe him they CAN'T. I tell you something. I'm not wasting my saturday evening watching another Starwars film, or even worse JAMES BOND. ITV better get their act together because I'm sick of repeats and the same bloody films over and over again Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad Crying or Very sad Mad

if ITV had done with the show what they did with Steve Irwin and Chris Tarrant at 5pm and 5:30pm respectively (that is, promote the show with trailers and stuff) then maybe things would have been different and we wouldn't be seeing Mr Cheesy Smile and his unfunny clips at 5pm now.

More likely they're too scared to try something new unless they have to - the only reason that Night & Day got commissioned and into the schedule in the first place was because they lost Home & Away to Channel 5 and effectively "panicked" them into getting a replacement that ended up going out at some ungodly hour on a Thursday night.

It is known that ITV have been experimenting with 6 weekly episodes of Emmerdale and now Barbara's gone, it would not surprise me if Sundays at 7pm becomes another soap slot for either Emmie or Corrie.

I think you may find there was quite a heavy promo campaign for the new look CROSSROADS.

People may just be soaped out - the stalwarts will always be there (CORRIE, EASTENDERS, EMMERDALE), but CROSSROADS in terms of plot and characters never appealed to a mass audience. BROOKSIDE and RIVER CITY are other series where the plot s and characters have destroyed them.

Well there must have been loads of invisible trailers and dead air when those went out then because I can't recall ever seeing one of them although I do know that something went out...
