Erm - actually, the programmes they should show more ALSO get viewers.
So as a viewer who DOESN'T want wall-to-wall Corrie, Emmerdale and YBF, I'd be arrogant because only the viewers who DO should be getting catered for?
There I was thinking that ITV had a remit to deliver programmes for all cross-sections of the community, rather than just one... how selfish of me.
Mind you, there HAVE been some rare gems - but they ARE too rare. Perhaps if they were ON MORE, in SOCIABLE hours ... they'd GET MORE VIEWERS.....? Simple equation, work it out... As a spokesman for T.A.P.E., a consultancy charged with the task of finding out why "Neighbours" was so successful, the conclusion was this - "because it's on at tea-time, and you can show ANYTHING at tea-time regularly and build up a family loyalty". He went on to say it was nothing to do with the content of Neighbours at all. Just the time. FACT > People take what they're given. FACT 2 > People who take what they're given end up liking what they're given. FACT 3 > When people stumble across better programmes at odd times, they wonder why such programmes aren't shown in primetime. FACT 4 > Such people who have discovered Fact 3 are not listened to by ITV's controllers or anybody else. FACT 5 > Advertisers ARE listened to by ITV's controllers and everybody else.

Oh yes, how *dare* they show what the majority of viewers want to see. Like it or lump it, programmes like You've Been ******* Framed - despite being awful - get viewers. Why should they drop such programmes when they prove to be so popular? I'm sorry but ITV1 is still the most popular commercial channel on British TV, so they must be doing something right.
