The BBC one has apparently been used for real once, although not that obviously

Was that the occasion when the Christmas symbols mysteriously disappeared for a few hours after a breakdown on all channels?

The BBC nations have reciprocal arrangements with each other.

I presume if things really hit the fan one of the nations could run the network if Redbee were unable to?

Although I guess the kind of scenario where that were necessary would be a major catastrophe and a case of cobbling together whatever is available.

Can't speak for TV but I know a few years ago at Global if Leicester Square was unusable, the various Heart and Capital regional studios would house the various brands. Certainly, it is possible to put any studio in the group to any of the networks, so for example Heart could run from Brighton, Classic FM from Nottingham, Smooth from Birmingham, XFM from Manchester, LBC from Leeds.... You get the idea.

Remember when Channel 4 were forced out due to a gas leak near their HQ. It was prior to Red Bee but I think they moved presentation to an emergency site but adverts and playout was operated remotely?

I seem to recall they dropped down to London ads only ? They also remapped (or rather asked BSkyB to remap) the Sky EPG to nationally point at another single stream on a different t/p, not the six 'LEMNUS' streams on their 'own' t/p

The AR switching was a bit of a mess, but otherwise it wasn't too bad

Yes it was when it still came from their HQ in Horseferry Road.

As I mentioned above, they had a backup facility available to them in the building of another media company in another part of London

Probably a daft question but last time I was in the C4 building there were signs in the basement pointing to a Red Bee area so does play out actually still come from that building even though its contracted out or are they merely offices or something?

Red Bee took over 124 Facilities who used to run a studio in the basement, but now just do post production.

That's interesting that NI are the back up for Wales. Would it not be less obvious on screen if they defaulted to the network feed from London?

Am I the only one who thought of Capital FM at first?
