Home and Away is in a much better slot on Five.

Surely even repeating the Des and Mel compilations would have been better for ITV.

Even though it comes across as sour grapes, I guess it's better than ITV1 digging up repeats of the likes of Catchphrase again!

Not really, the ratings aren't up to what they used to get on ITV.

Unfortunatly for Home and Away, it transferred to five at a time when it was unavailable to significant portions of the country. However now thanks to the increase in digital take up five is available to more of the country, however, the period between resuming of Home and Away and people gaining access to digital television, many people have become disassociated with the storylines and characters so have not returned to the soap. Another reason for the lack of audience was because of the year long gap between the transfer of channels, thanks to itv. This meant people did not go back to the soap, as they had moved on. The 6 o'clock timeslot is a good one for Home and Away, it proved popular when it was on certain itv regions at this time.

How were the new competitions shoehorned in?

Paul still introduced the competitions but they were billed as "OUR BRAND NEW COMPETITION". Also whenever he mentioned Guess The Theme Tune a banner appeared at the bottom saying "We can no longer take entries for guess the theme tune"

Well, today's was classic a few minutes back...

Paul: Let's have a look at what you can win in todays' competition
Clip: "You can win a holiday to Mexico"
Back to Studio
Paul: Wow! Oh, i'd love to go back there to Oz. It was great last time.... (then jumps into a joke about kiwi's).

Later...

Paul: oh, don't miss the TV awards later tonight...

Nice to see some continuity...

Just watching it, yo realise how abysmal this is on ITV's part. Not only the sour grapes, but almost nothing is relevant to today (ie NTA, X Factor, Corrie discussions etc). I can imagine your average viewer being very confused.

Surely its no different to repeats on UK Gold. Have I Got News for You or any old episode of any chat show.

Primetime on ITV? Millions will be watching. Also, where HIGNFY is topical, it is more a 'comedy'; i.e. the jokes can be related to in everyday situations, or the show can be watched back and can still be followed with next to no confusion. However, it's different if 'who do you want to win the X Factor' is asked, or the 'current' Corrie storyline is being discussed.

I read today Paul O'Grady won a TRIC award last night (something like Entertainer of the Year) - and obviously took the opportunity to tell ITV to piss off and grow up!

5pm not classed as primetime. Millions ? probably about 1.5 - 2 at best. Not sure it's the big deal you're making it out to be, I doubt the general public are being fooled by it.

So he's bringing 'Bert along to Channel 4 then.

ITV totally do need to grow up - I agree with him.

Not really. People will realise that they are repeats.
