Nope, C4 want to maintain there 'alternative' and 'multi-cultural' approach.

And yet, they never used to be like this. It was only a few years ago they would have had the tree in the square box logo; and before that, many other variants on the 4 for Christmas time.

My favourite was from around mid-90's, not sure of the exact year, but it involved an initial silver 4 which then appeared with pointed tip and mirrored at the spine, to create a perfect Xmas tree shape. A star atop then glowed as the tree 4 rotated, revealing (appropriately) four pointy 4's all joined at right-angles as a 3D tree which continued to rotate.

It's a shame they haven't made at least one ident - surely a snowy 4 isn't that difficult.

They could even pull out their Old Man ident and pass it off as an alternative to the "Christmasy" idents, perhaps paid with the sofa one which is in the same kind of vane - and both are probably more like the realities of most Christmas's anyhow!

C4 though don't seem too bothered about Christmas this year with their programming - a couple of Deal or No Deal "specials", and Christmas episodes of Charlotte Church and Come Dine with Me are about the only things in the schedule.

Even the Green Wing finale, the supposed highlight of the schedule, doesn't actually air till January 4th!

ITV's schedule looks particularly Chrismassy in comparison to 'Channel of the year' - Channel 4.

It seemed that when Channel 4 won that award the schedule was full of delights but ever since it really has become quite flat and I havent watched much on Channel 4 post Big Brother!

You and me both. The Autumn schedule has been terribly flat, more so this year than ever before. Channel 4 tends to do brilliantly in the first 3/4 of the year, but then tends to dip after that - usually around the time the other channels bring out their big guns.

Personally ive always found C4 rather overrated.

They've not got as much stick in the media as perhaps they should for it, but I think it's widely accepted the autumn schedule has been weak.

The big US dramas - and estabhlished homegrown stuff like Shameless, all played out in the first half of the year, with Big Brother lifting the schedule in the summer.

It left the last few months of the year pretty bare - but C4 have still managed to hold their audience share from last year, the only terrestrial channel to do so. It's the daytime schedule that has saved them though - stealing Paul O'Grady has proved pretty crucial and I'm sure the couple of million he cost them will be recouped.

As I said elsewhere to give the autumn the boost it needs C4 need to begin showing the first half of some of their US hits in the autumn, soon after they air in America. Most stations are expected to take this approach in the near future in reaction to downloading on the net, so I expect we'll begin to see it in the next couple of years.

Of course though C4 can give themselves a nostalgic filled boost next Autumn though with tons of programmes to celebrate 25 years on air - hopefully!

CH4 was far better when it really was alternative, before selling out and going mainstream. Now it seems to think it's alternative but so isn't. There isn't anything they show that wouldn't look out of place on ITV or BBC1.
