If you read a later article that day in the Guardian you'd have also read one of the ITV execs saying that "it probably wouldn't happen" .. and why? Because this merger would require an act of parliament to take place.

The reason ITV were talking about this? They said if C5 are allowed to bid for 4, so should they.

It could never be a simple matter of a merger - it can't be that simple.

If Channel 4 is privatised the shares would HAVE to be sold to the public first. It would take years for them to be mopped up so a major conglomorate could buy them.

I say again, cloud cookoo land - at least for the time being.

Obivously you have never watched the public broadcasters ARD-1, ZDF, any of the regional-3s, Arte, or even 3-Sat.
