The ex BBC lady is Isla Paton - who also narrated the docco 'Snorting Coke with the BBC'. Bless her!
She was always being told that she was too sexy at the Beeb!

yup - def like the Irish guy the best on 4 ...real continuity with attitude ....it all sounds slightly threatening ...which works for me ! anyone know who he is? ( lost track of them all lately)
Gary Terrza is great too ...he has been there for years ...not sure about the african anno lady...inflections a abit wierd....
Jane Copland was 3rd or 4th in a line of kittenish sounding female annos at 4 .....Olga Hubaniszka set the style at the start I think followed by Veronica Hyks ( great documentary narrator) then Ali Ballantyne ...then Jane who sounded like Ali ....Four consistently seem to set very high standards
what about 5 ...a few new people there it seems lately ...?

I must be getting old! Can anyone tell me why I should want a continuity announcer to sound threatening? It just sounds bad to me. All this attitude stuff is just a turn off as far as I'm concerned. I want an announcer to sound welcoming, friendly, approachable - not like the people you try to get away from in a bar!

Point taken Baroness - but I would say that the edgey style of 4 announcers works for 4 - give them warm , fluffy announcers and they won't fit with the perception of their brand image-
Each station evolves its announcer style according to how they want us to 'view' it-
EG:
The BBC's policy of turfing out the older , 'proper' sounding announcers in favour of yoofy, estuary voices is deliberate - they want to be perceived as being more 'in touch' with the viewers .
So as far as the 4 guy is concerned - he works for me as he fits my 'view' of 4 .
Not many warm, friendly types about these days! The ITV regions were probably the last bastion of warm and friendly ....

...that he emphasises WORDS that do not NEED emphasising WHEN he's announcing. And YES I agree it's a very ahrd HITTING style, DOESN'T make sense when intro-ing THE hoobs.
