Arrow Trailers for Mon-Fri programmes being made by LWT but branded 'ITV' but containing LWT's background graphics (red/silver whirlygigs) for showing on Granada North in the week;

No the Mon-Fri trailers were produced in Leeds with a Leeds based announcer, it had the transparent ITV logo on the left, and didn't finish with the swirly background, the weekend ones were produced by LWT and finished off with a swirly background.

I remember this strongly, as I hated the trailers that were being made in Leeds as they didn't use those swirly graphics.

There were also a fair few trailers produced by Granada with Colin Weston etc voicing them over that summer. Distinctive for being just like the Leeds trails but even more basic; the caption generator in use in Manchester having a lot of flicker and the overall look of these trails being distinctly grubby.

In the end I recall that a lot of the Central-branded ITV trailers ended up being used by GMG North as well, so that in one break in the North East we had a Central ITV trail (with small white ITV logo on-screen), followed by a TTTV trail with local logo and then a Granada-produced one with a badly-rendered grey-inverted semi-transparent ITV on the other side of the screen to where it normally was. At other times of the day there would be either LWT- or YTV- produced trails, none of which matched each other. What a mess -- it was like going back to the days of each station producing their own versions of the ITV-look trailers.

It was almost a relief when all trails started to come from London...

Has anybody got any examples of these promo designs?

I seem to have no memory of anything between the Yorkshire 'Channel 3 era' promos to the "TV from the Heart of life" promos

It was a mess, but it would have made interesting presentation talk, now it's all so uniform Sad

But the trailers produced in Leeds from 1998 started out well enough, then they dropped the swirly background, the local trailers started to look poor as well, and of course that 3D chevron spinning round and round and round, really I was relieved as well to see trailers produced from London!

The lady in question is still oop north I believe. Cool

Doing what exactly? Not much to do up there now is there?
The aforementioned ex Grampian announcer was last heard of based at the Northern Transmission Centre i.e. Leeds ( ex YTV)
Well, most of my questions were answered there eventually, and many thanks to Mark and Roy for doing so. But my final question remains - what exactly is there to do at the Northern Transmission Centre, other than insert commercials to the north and midlands, which surely can be done remotely from London?

I thought Leeds other function was to be back up to London ?

(Should've been done at Brum IMO, seeing BBC Network back up also was / still there! Has the answer to that question been resolved btw?)

(Apart from being responsible for transmission of local progs for ex GMG & Carlton Central regions. Did I read somewhere that they are involved with the 'clean' feed to SMG & UTV as well ?)

Just to clear things up - Leeds ( Northern Transmission Centre) provide the back up for London ( Southern Transmission Centre) and tx feed the northern companies.
