The Butchering Of Crossroads

Has anybody else other than me seen the 1PM showing of Crossroads on UTV?  The programme is clearly taped off LNN the day before then played out a day later!  Not only are the episodes a day behind the rest of the network, the credits include a load of people who aren't even in the show now and also seem very strangley put together.  Where the promo should be in the credits is the video from the opening theme and there's a jerky jump in the sound in the middle when the opening theme video disappears off the screen.  On top of that, the old Surf sponsorship ads are used!  It looks absoloutely terrible!  Has anybody else noticed this and is this a common thing with programmes that get timeshifted by UTV?  It's horrible!

www.crossroadshotel.co.uk is also used still on the endcap, as opposed to itv.com/crossroads a la the network but this is probably UTV's anti-ITV attitude more than anything.

I know that if they're recording straight off the network feed they have to get round the end credit promo problem somehow (or they'd be advertising programmes that have already gone out) but this seems a bad way of doing it.

It would help if LNN provided the programme themselves, but they don't as they play out trails/promos and the evenings programming for those that opt out, such as Coronation Street.

And what are they supposed to do if they aren't provided with clean versions eh?  Of course they are a day behind if LNN don't play it out. At least they make the effort to cover up the ECP, unlike another ITV region I spotted letting one go out wrongly last night.

If your not happy, don't watch UTV.  People in NI wouldn't know the difference, and that's what matters.  Although I hope you are impressed with their continuity, competitions and News, don't see Carlton offering you lot DVD players and trips away every evening! Smile

As to bumpers, why should they change the bumpers.  Carlton/ITV provides the programme, they have been TOLD when UTV are showing the episodes yet obviously haven't done anything about the sponsorship credits.

Don't think that's correct, again it's on the credits they have.  Afterall, they often pre-record other shows and repeat them with the itv.com web address.

As to the Biggest Game in Town, that goes out as normal on UTV, apart from the Friday show.  If anything, should TBGIT promote anything that UTV aren't showing, it makes TBGIT look a bit silly but I know that the producers are annoyed because UTV don't show their Friday evening show.  There's been enough Steve LeFevre in a day on ITV1 and no need  to have an extra half hour of Smile

BTW - Everything changed this week on UTV, so the week before, Crossroads was at the usual time in the Afternoon.

Wow, we are unhappy, aren't we? Well, why don't UTV just buy the programme direct from Carlton or have them ship them over some clean versions anyway. They've still got Sarah-Jane played by Joanne Farell when Holly Newman has now taken over the role! Or couldn't Carlton just e-mail or fax them the credit list for that episode and then UTV did their own credits - surely not that hard?

It just looks gay, so I will watch it on Central in future, thank you very much.

Better still, give Crossroads the teatime slot back and scrap Night and Day - they've got a late night omnibus anyway!

So you're saying that Northern Irish people are thick then?! At least you're finally admitted what the rest of us knew all along! Smile

I don't think it's top of their priorities to literally pay just to keep credits up to date, considering it's not that vital to the storyline!

As to NI people being stupid, it would surprise you.  Living in a troubled area means you can often see badly spelt graffitti.

Such as IRA PEACE BRACKERS.

Erm, Breakers I think they'll find,

They spelt Ormeau Ormue but they realised it and tried to correct it badly.  You'd think if you were going to protest over a road you would know the name of it at least!

(satisfied now frogman!?) Wink

Sorry Peter, just couldn't resist it - in a message about spelling the correct version of that statement would have been ' You'd think if you're going to protest over a road you would know the name of it at least! Wink (sorry!)

In any case, Crossroads gets very poor ratings on UTV. It's simply not a priority to make sure it goes out right!!!

And yes, I am impressed with their news, continuity and competitions, along with your excellent regional programme including that example of what being a regional provider is truly all about (rather than the pan-regional 'The Base' and other such nonsense), Kelly.

If ITV don't want UTV to butcher Crossroads, then ITV should arrange to send up a proper feed of Crossroads. As everything is done from Network Centre, it is not up to UTV to go direct to Carlton and beg for a clean feed of the programme!

If I ran UTV I'd just cut the credits clean off, and stick a 'UTV Presentation' slide at the end and have done with it. It's only a cheapo daytime programme anyway!
