Although not being broadcast until October, Death Of A President has already stirred up mixed emotions, with The Republic Party calling it "shocking" and "disturbing". C4 have always been good at creating controversy. That's fine in my eyes, as long as it isn't gimmiky. The fact it's headling at Toronto soon seems to show that's not the case.

I personally am looking forward to the programme, and seeing the reaction. US advertisers are already making noises about boycotting C4/More4, not wanting to be associated with the drama. The next few weeks will be rather interesting...

The mock news casts would be interesting. I wonder whether it will be fictional channels with actors or real mocked CNN/Sky/BBC etc with actual newsreaders/reporters. I can't see the BBC wanting to be too closely associate with this. And Fox News no way..

Which "US advertisers" currently run campaigns on British networks?

Even companies like Coca Cola Enterprises Ltd are wholly owned UK firms.

Were there any referred to by name?

This is true, but Coca Cola Enterprises do have to do what their American cousins say to some extent - they certainly dictate certain elements of their new product range.

The whole threat is nonsense anyway, mind.

Hopefully it will be as fun as reading the BBC POV message boards when they ran "What the world thinks of America" a few years back.

The show seems good, but I don't know why there is such controversy. Documentaries are an art. Art can please the eye, or look bad, but most of the time, there is not controversy. It's an art, and stupid corparate people find it nessacery to ruin stuff.

Some video reports on cnn.com and foxnews.com (and probably others).

Fox News being Fox News clarify it's being made by "BBC Channel 4"!

The thing is though when I first read about it wasn't the victim I found controversial - it was the actual assassin, a Syrian bloke who I though to be pretty stereotyphical really. Would have been more interesting to see an American do it!
