I notice from credits of the later series (Challenge are airing episodes from 1990 at the moment) of Bullseye that they were "produced in association with PHI Television". I know Bullseye was produced in association with Chatsworth Television until probably the show's "soft" relaunch in 1985/6 when it inverted its set from what had gone before.

I can't find much on PHI Television so I presumed it's one of these companies Central created for various reasons similar to Central Television Enterprises - either that or PHI is (was?) an indie. Anybody know anything about PHI Television please? IMDB (yes I know) suggests they also had input into some HTV show from 1989 featuring Gyles Brandreth and not a lot else so I'm not convinced they're a Central creation.

Also to bring this back in terms of presentation I know I might chunter on a bit about Bullseye given half a chance but it's only took me over 25 years to finally notice the mirror (or what I think is a mirror reflecting the neon lights) above the audience at the contestant end of the studio during the later years of production at Birmingham before the show moved to Nottingham... Embarassed

I believe PHI stands for Phillip Holmans International. Phillip Holmans produced Bullseye and worked closely with Malcolm Heyworth of Chatsworth. Perhaps Bullseye was spun off to Holmans' own company.

I loved how for years they had that horrid mustard set on one side and the neon set around the audience on the other side of the studio. The neons made the set look more modern for it's time.

Bullseye (particularly after the 1985 look that they stuck with until it ended) doesn't look that dated in comparison to many of the other game shows (or indeed other programmes) of the time. The 2006 version on the other hand tried to replicate the "original" set (or rather the set we all know after 1985) and went a bit overboard with the neon lighting and some of the camera angles. Sometimes less is more.

Just to correct myself.. PHI stood for Peter Holmans International, not Phillip.
