I can see his mates, Dave Spikey, Paddy McGuinness etc as possible contenders though... <<spits out tea>> TED ROBBINS!

Rising stars from Phoenix Nights
The stars of Phoenix Nights are branching out with Dave Spikey taking over as the new host of the new Bullseye.
Spikey has been confirmed as the face of Challenge's new-look quizshow Bullseye from 17 April taking the place of Jim Bowen, who hosted the ITV version in the 80s and 90s. He joins original co-hosts Tony Green and sidekick Bully.

Hmm, I wonder if these people got the idea from reading my posts on this forum?
I think its right that someone like Dave Spikey or Ted Robbins host it. I'd hate Ant and Dec doing it as, although they may be great entertainers, they're too young and its just not their style of show.

To me, this is terrible news. A show which was hugely popular in it's original run, and hugely popular in repeats does not necessarily lend itself well to a remake. Indeed, the remake is likely to flop and kill off repeats of the original with it.
This happened to Blockbusters - watered down remakes on BBC2 and Sky One which flopped spectacularly did huge amounts of damage to the original too - and only in the past year or so has challenege looked at seriously re-running the original ITV series which was so succesful.
But now we have Flextech doing a cheap remake of Bullseye - which straight away means that the old series will be severely curtailed if not removed from the schedules for fear of what will happen if their brand new production had to compete with it's nemesis on the same channel, and then the resulting flop of a new series will see them steering well clear of rerunning the old Central series for the forseeable future.
I was *glad* when Flextech backpedaled on their idea to remake The Crystal Maze, I hope too that this new version of Bullseye never comes to fruition either - if present day ITV can only make Family Fortunes and Catch Phrase survive in cheaply made teatime formats (when in their heyday they were huge primetime rating pullers) then how on earth is Flextech supposed to recreate Bullseye?
Challenge will do better just rerunning classic quiz shoes, rather than trying to reproduce them.

after initial scepticism about the new series, i think dave spikey is fantastic. his delivery of the show is very much along the same lines as jim bowen and i think they've managed to keep the spirit of the show by changing very little. this isn't a re-make of a show in the daytime catchphrase/family fortunes sense, where a remixed theme tune, cheap unsuitable presenter and re-hashed set make for a pale imitation of the original.
aside from the slightly too naff nature of the prizes i cant really fault the new series at all.

Hmm, looks like they employed the same people who made the Quizmania set.
Why celebs? Why?
