I don't think Sky would give up La Liga because they've lost the Champions League - there is a reason La Liga is the only foreign football really on Sky.

Which is what?
Presumably its actually two reasons - Barcelona and Real Madrid.

Yes the two biggest brands in club football, in edition to Manchester United I'd say. It doesn't matter if teams from other countries are dominating Europe they're bigger box office than the likes of Bayern Munich and will be for sometime. It's also important to remember Sky was showing Spanish football before they had Champions League rights. They'll be keen to keep hold of it. But like everything it'll have it's commercial value and if BT value them more then Sky they'll go to BT. There would be a good chance BT would have to reduce their coverage of one of their others leagues to accommodate it though.
Not surprised. ITV need these rights and logically they were the only contender. Would have been novel to hear the Champions League theme on the BBC though.
Comments seem to indicate that the highlights package will be better than the current one shown on Tuesdays. Reading between the lines seems that ITV will be getting a 60-75 min package on Wednesdays covering all the games held in the week both from Tuesday and Wednesday. If so it's quite an offering that might attract significant advertiser interest.

I wonder what time they're allowed to broadcast the highlights from it might be something like 45 minutes after the full time whilst on a Wednesday. But I wouldn't put it past ITV to air the programme at 10pm, and hold off the news till after 11 if they could. That could prove more difficult in knock out stages of course and would require a fast edit.
I assume there'll be nothing for the Europa League in terms of FTA highlights, that could prove popular for ITV 4 or ITV 1 whilst there are still a few British teams in the competition and coverage of the final if it were to feature a British side would be good too, although the final should be FTA through BT.
It's a shame the Europa League isn't played earlier in the week than the Champions League, because BT Sport might be inclined to give all the first picks away for free then so they could promote the Champions League coverage.

I think that in these days of sanity in ITV News's scheduling, they wouldn't shove the news to such a late slot.

In two weeks News at Ten will be moved to 10.30pm on Wednesday and Friday for I'm a celebrity. The Saturday bulletin will be at 11.35pm! Last week they delayed it until 10.30pm for an Elvis clip show And for the 2 weeks before the Olympics they moved it to 10.30 to fit in 'Superstar'.
For the Europa League they cut the regional news at 6 to 15 minutes and shoved News At Ten to 10.15/20 for weeks on end to fit it and double Emmerdale into the schedule. If they are allowed to air the highlights at Ten, they will imo!
££ comes first.
That was very much my thinking when I made the suggestion. Also who's to say by 2015 ITV News haven't decided to move News at Ten to a different time slot on a permanent basis, considering the amount of times they've moved it around since 1999 there is nothing to stop it happening again. We know ITV is in a much better place than it has been these days in a lot of ways but News is not something they're 100% rigid on the timings and their thinking my return to offering an alternative at 10pm to BBC One and do the News later where there isn't the competition from BBC News at Ten.
I think the practicalities mean 10.35pm is easier for them. IIRC back in 1999 when the move was first made they initially played out the highlights at 10pm, but soon moved them to 11.30pm - partly forced upon them due to extra time etc.
Although if having just the one highlights show Wednesdays is better than Tuesdays it's a shame UEFA haven't compensated for the loss of FTA live rights by having shows on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Weekends have always been different in terms of importance - 10:30pm or 10:35pm otherwise isn't too ridiculous. Moving it to after eleven during the week wouldn't be done these days.
