The annual argument of scrapping it is back again this year - now they want us to stay in BST in the Winter and still put our clocks forward in the Spring so it'll be light till about 11pm! I like the dark!!!

One thing I haven't heard this time is the argument of Scotland changing it's time zone to be one hour ahead of the rest of the UK.

That would screw the TV schedules up!

Why not just use BST all year around (so BST becomes GMT if you like). It's more beneficial to have an extra hour of daylight in the afternoon/evening than in the morning. Afterall, nobody complains about losing an hour of daylight in the morning when the clocks go foward in March!! There are more people up and about at 16:45 than at 07:45

Plus it would save us having to change the clocks every six months. Look on the bright side-- it doesn't get fully dark until ~30 mins after sunset (reverse is true at sunrise)

Couldn't agree more with what you've said there.... I don't understand the logic of setting the clocks back for the sake of lighter mornings (although I find it helpful getting to sixth form!) - I would have thought that longer evenings would reduce crime and improve road safety. It's worth waiting for in the morning when it's dark , that's my opinion...

I see this forum has already begun with the putting clocks back - as I write this it is currently 0030 hours - but the post time was put back an hour for one of my latest posts...

Or even better, just stay on BST and get the people in Scotland to do everything according to when it's dark. Time is a mostly arbitary concept after all

If it's not broke don't touch it, is it really that much of a pain to change your clock back every 6 months? Rolling Eyes

Yes - my sentiments exactly.

There are more important things to worry about in this country than changing the clocks every March and every October. We get the same old chestnut every year when the clocks are about to go back!

I agree with that because we associate Christmas with dark nights.

Still prefer the Summer though with the hot days and light nights!

The present system means the majority of schoolchildren get to and from school in daylight. ANY adjustment in either direction removes this advantage. That is why we have the present system.

Children don't have to go to school at 9 and finish at 3, just adjust school opening times to suit the daylight hours
