But the problem is that Bertlesmann is strapped for cash too, so RTL can't go asking the parent company for it. RTL will have to raise the cash for themsleves in the City. They will have to have a good business case, which would probably involve selling Five.

Come on Bertlesman/RTL take over ITV - you are the only worthy contender in this battle and the channel would actually stay European!!!

And if they did sell Five, would there be any chance of any of Five's current commissioning team moving over to ITV? And maybe even some of Five's shows?

I cant imagine Home and Away going back on ITV - dont five have it for as long as the show is being made?

Yes but I'm just saying this in the event of Five being merged with ITV / sold off by RTL.

RTL just hold the licence to the channel - whether they sell the channel or not RTL don't have the rights to move programmes unless they win the commissions - Anything that five has commissioned will/would stay with five.
I am saying that RTL (even with financial backing from corprorate Banks) hopefully wins this battle as as such ITV stays European mainly because NTL main stock exchange is the NASDAQ in New York, whereas RTL's is both LSE and Die Borse (or is it Der or Das- never too sure of of which The to use).

But would they be able to do that and would ITV even want it back? It probabaly wouldnt get the same amount of viewers as it once did as people lost interest when it went off air for a year.

Refering to the post above:
And this one from the 'New Idents for ITV1' tread:
Ooops! Just noticed that itv1 has updated it's idents! Shows how much I watch!!
you're not the only ignorant one http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/6164510.stm
Considering that logo is the original, no scratch, no bevelled edge etc version, it's probably even older than it looks anyway
It looks like Yahoo! are only slightly more up to date than the BBC!
More on topic, were all ITV shares just owned by private indiviuals before?
