BUt doesn;t that mean BSKYB also owns a share in STV?

No, it would mean STV was part of NTL's company pre-merger, so it would reduce Sky's share in the network... I think Confused

I wonder what will happen to GMTVs News Output now...

It seems more about ntl/Virgin than ITV.

Sky would rather keep the status quo than for ITV to merge with ntl: telewest / virgin which would add content to their already strong quadruple line up of integrated broadband / tv / mobile & telephony.

Seems less likely now for ITV to be subject of a takeover bid. ITV a bit of a pawn in all this, in a bigger game. Interesting development all the same, wonder if they'll become active in the search of a new chief executive.

Channel 3 licences will be irrelevant once analogue is switched off -- ITV will be just one more channel among many.

I suspect this stake will just be there to put off NTL getting ITV. I can't see Sky doing anything in terms of ITV's management - they'll just get accused of influencing a 'rival'.

I'm guessing there'll be crisis at NTL: Telewest's HQ at the moment.
