You know I often think this place needs a "Death Notices" forum, given how often we post such matters (I'm joking, really), but this might interest some of the locals.

The Belfast Telegraph tonight reported the death of Brum Henderson, one of the founders of Ulster Television. I wouldn't class myself as much of a reader, but I did enjoy his autobiography, "A Life in Television".

From the Bel Tel:

The Chairman of Ulster Television, John B McGuckian, has paid tribute to a founder-member of the company, R Brumwell Henderson, who died at his home on Friday. He was 76.

Mr McGuckian said today : "'Brum' was a pillar of UTV from its

inception, and brought to it a love of theatre and panache, and a colourful command of language which helped make UTV what it is today.

"He was a larger than life character who impressed all who met him and will be sadly missed by his family friends and colleagues."

Brum Henderson , who came from a well-known Belfast newspaper family, was educated at Trinity College Dublin and spent his early years in the Newsletter.

Mr Henderson was a founder-member of Ulster Television, which began broadcasting in 1959, and he directly influenced all aspects of the television business until he left UTV in 1990.

He was actively involved in many charities and was a long-serving member of the Senate of Queen's University, which recently awarded him a honorary degree.

Mr Henderson is survived by his wife Pat, his daughters Glynis and Sally and by his wider family.

A service for the celebration of his life will be held in St Anne's Cathedral, Belfast, on August 18 at 11.30am.

I watched 'UTV Live' yesterday evening and, I know it was a busy news day, but don't recall hearing them mention it.

Perhaps not surprising - it seems 1993 was, in many ways, their equivalent of Year Zero.

Any word on a tribute programme?

Did BBC Newsline mention Brum's death?
