When they showed it a month or so ago the tone/style of the programme looked suspiciously like it could double as an obit programme.

It's complicated but basically Play Your Cards Right was shunted to teatime and lost half its audience. Around the same time Bruce's Price Is Right was kept in prime time but haphazardly scheduled and when Bruce wrote to David Liddiment to see what was going on, David blamed a cock up on the part of the scheduling team and apologised.
Several months later Bruce met with David and they had a row culminating in Bruce asking him "be straight with me, are you trying to phase me out?" and David said something along the lines of "I would appreciate it if someone told me it was time to give it up" which basically showed him to be a liar when he'd blamed the scheduling cock up previously.
It was a mess and Bruce was quite rightly furious.

The only thing I wish there was a little light shone onto was the split from ITV in the early 00s. All I know is that it was acrimonious but that's it.

Just watched the tribute on iPlayer, where I suspect those who can will watch it. I think it's a rehash of a previous programme about Bruce as I remember them talking about the duff show he did for ITV in the late 70s.

The BBC tribute was superb - just think it may have been too early so many may have not heard the news or not expected it to air so soon. They'd be no harm in them showing it again after the news actually.

I saw the news on Sky News in the 8pm hour, and a lot of the archive footage of Brucie looked like it was straight off YouTube or something. Really terrible, pixelated quality.

As with all these 'immediate' obituaries that's what you get. I very much expect that there'll be a further BBC Tribute at some stage during which there'll be the opportunity for posthumous reflective interviews and more detailed scrutiny of Forsyth and the industry figures involved.
The Sir Terry Wogan One Show was the exception to the rule but considering the proximity of all the leading players that really worked wonderfully.
Today's been hard personally, having heard of an acquantance's death, so I've chosen not to watch the tribute so far and have attempted to navigate away on neutral through the coverage. I expect it's been splendid though. Tomorrow's another day.

As far as I could tell, everything the BBC have used looks like it's come straight from the archives, which I have to give them credit for.
The BBC Four documentary in question was The Saturday Night Story. A clip from there that wasn't featured in the tribute show was when an audience member asked for his thoughts on the media's hostility towards him and the show. His response was that he would've been torn apart for trying something new, and he would've been torn apart for sticking with something stale, so why not try something new?
I've only seen the full episode that Greggles uploaded, but I think the biggest problem with Big Night was it was too long and tried to do too much. Watching two people play a primitive Pong game, it's blatant why people chose the Generation Game over it. But as Bruce said, he would've been torn apart for playing it safe.

RIP Brucie, loved watching him on Play Your Cards Right, The Price is Right and Strictly Come Dancing and still watch the repeats of his gameshows on Challenge. I also thought the tribute show tonight on BBC One was excellent.
I would love to see the 1st Bruce Forsyth episode of Have I Got News for You repeated again either on BBC One or Dave, for me it's one of the best ever episodes of the programme.
