Sad day, I had expected him to come back yet and reinvent himself again, but has his absence from the screens got longer and longer today became ever more inevitable, particularly when it was said he was too ill to attend the funeral of Ronnie Corbett.

Pretty much my thoughts.

That was an excellent tribute programme. It will be interesting to see the overnight viewing figures. I suspect they will be quite high.

The generation game 2nd time around and then Bruce's Price is Right is how I remember him the most, particularly the latter when it used to air on Fridays at7.

Is this programme currently on BBC One new or a repeat?

Very sad news, although we knew he was not in the best of health, it was always going to be sad when he died, as a family we loved the generation game, will always remember the time as a kid when we couldn't stop laughing, you knew as soon as you switched on one of his many shows, you would be throroughly entertained, a truely legendary personality who has passed away today, they won't be another Brucie, rest in peace sir and thanks for the many years of entertainment and laughter.

It was interesting seeing some of those shows from the 70s/80s/90s. It made me realise just how many times he'd entertained me and my family.

The 'messy fall out' as you call it was more regarding Play your Cards Right rather than Price is Right was it not. It was the former which was shunted out of peak time. Sadly TV moved into a different direction at that point due to the likes of Millionaire and The Weakest Limk, his style of game show fell out of favour and ratings dropped, not helped by the rise in multichannel around the same time.

Now those sorts of game shows are in favour again to some degree, I had hoped he might have done another one, as I feel he was always at his best in that pre-recorded mixing with the public format. Pre recording an half hour may have been more manageable for someone of his age than hosting Strictly live for many hours.

Inevitable news but it doesn't make it any easier to digest nonetheless.

For an entertainer to span 70 years and to be a mainstay of the small screen for 60 years is a feat I very much doubt we'll ever see the likes of again.

The trouble is... whereas with the death of Cilla who was most definitely an ITV face, where does Bruce fit in? A BBC face or an ITV face?

The Generation Game and Strictly are definitely his two most famous BBC shows. But then you think about Sunday Night at the London Palladium and Play Your Cards Right and think he had just as many hits on ITV.

It's a toughie but one thing stays the same... that all of his many catchphrases, his thinker pose and his fabulous charisma and interaction with the general public is something that will never be forgotten.

The only thing I wish there was a little light shone onto was the split from ITV in the early 00s. All I know is that it was acrimonious but that's it.

He wasn't an ITV man , he wasn't a BBC man HE was a variety legend, he did everything. Like It was said earlier the only to other two that could match him is Ken Dodd and Stanley baxter, there both did everything.

It's a dying breed which is badly needed on British tv.
