Although some around here may think the system for handing out Knighthoods and other such honours
is out of date, IMHO, the day when Her Maj utters the words, "Arise, Sir Bruce", is lo-o-o-ng overdue.

Bruce is the Master of Light Entertainment and does indeed deserve to be a Sir.

He is a true entertainer in every sense of the word. Sadly one of the few left. Admittedly he is a bit wooden on Strictly Come Dancing, but when he is free of the autocue, the man's a genius.

Indeed. I didn't see this programme, but I hope when the time does eventually come and he does pass on they don't focus too much on his wooden performance on Strictly Come Dancing. Sadly a lot of people are remembering him from this and are saying stuff like he should be pensioned off. You only have to remember him from Bruce's Price is Right just a few years ago to know what he is usually like.

Yes - I really miss shows like The Price is Right , Play Your Cards Right and The Gen Game. Some may say that shows like that are dated, but there seems so little good old fashioned entertainment on TV nowadays.

Excuse me while I shuffle off for me pension.....

You raise a good point though. Play Your Cards Right was a brilliant show that was popular. If you ever went to some sort of fayre, which I did at the time, one of the things would always be Play Your Cards Right.
In fact a show like that would be perfect in the BBC's daytime schedule.

It would. Would certainly beat repeats of "Murder She Wrote" in the afternoons anyway.

Am starting to feel about 71, not 31....oh well Shocked

Can't stand these BAFTA tribute type programmes myself - I just find them cringeworthy!

Play your cards right and the price is right did very well - those days you had no other choice. I think those shows might struggle today.
We are far more discerning in our viewing habits with plenty of choice too.
As for being a great presenter well that is a matter of opinion and imho he is no better or worse than his counterparts. He can be good and downright awful and his jokes are cringeworthy.
A lot of people thinks its 'cool' to like him just because he has been around for ages and served his time. Does anyone know if he has children and can we expect the inevitable?
Wish him well though hope he has many years left in him .

The man is a TV Legend, he has stood the test of time and is multi-talented, whatever he touches is a success, who else could have pulled off Strictly Come Dancing? Based on some of the people who get knighthoods these days I definitely believe he should be made a Sir .. long may Brucie remain on our screens ..

Is watching game shows from 30+ years ago on "Challenge" a discerning choice away from wanting broadcasters to continue to make new ones?

Is "Millionaire" going to be the only Challenge fodder in years to come? Or will they STILL be running old Golden Shots and Darren Day "You Bet"s?

What does discerning mean, exactly? I'm sure the multichannel environment hasn't turned people into a mass audience of non-stop documentaries and wildlife programmes.

Fact is, the multichannel age has NOT made anyone more discening - it means if someone chooses to watch a game show, they have a choice of good, but old and endlessly repeated, material, or new material that has nothing to lend it any form of interest except for being more outrageous than the last - what was that awful game show on C4 a few months back with tasks that got more and more gruesome and disgusting from round to round, like contestants eating cat's eyeballs whilst having their mouth calipered back, and stuff? Is that really 'discerning'? I don't think so. Who hosted it? Can't remember. Any good jokes in it except at the contestants' expense? Don't recall any. Did I fall about laughing from any true wit that spontaneously arose from genuine conversation with the contestants? Ummmm.....
