I'm informed it's the track for the Rota Express, which when operational will transport teams of rota loggers around the sets of N24, World and all other bulletins.

Further connections to presenters' homes to assess punctuality issues/sick leaves/pregnancy status are at this point unconfirmed.

I don't think we will have the Desk platform rotating during shows, but having the flexibility to change what is seen behind the presenters makes a lot of sense.

It does indeed, and may also explain why they've gone for a circular design rather than just updating the look of the current rectangular sets in N6/TC7.

They could end up having two or three different looking sets within what is essentially a small area.

I don't think the desk moves - the "kick board" is perfectly lined up with the rear rostra and ramps - if the desk could be in any position, I wouldn't expect that to be there, as you could potentially enter the central area from any direction.

I *think* the tracks (if that's what they are, and not some sort of LED ring which needed to be mounted at fixed distances, and awaiting a final cover to make them flush with the floor, BBC Sport style) are more likely to be there to allow bits of the surrounding set to be easily (remotely?) moved to allow cameras to get around the set. On the extreme left of that image, another shorter set of tracks can be seen, with what looks like a piece of set mounted to it.

On another note, in this image...

Is that a HARDTALK logo in the preview of the virtual set?

I'm surprised to see a round desk in the N24 studio; they normally leave little room for guests.

The track is a similar gauge of those remote controlled camera heads - could this be for a little crab move round the desk at the top of the bulletin? A small camera would be hidden by the curved display, although it would be a very oblique angle.

Nah scrap what I said. It's far too steep an angle and the wrong side of the curved led.

An underlit step, like doxsuk said.

If you zoom in on this pic, there appears to be a third "track" going behind the rear-projection screen on the left.

Is the track not for smaller remote controlled camera's to give sweeping shots etc?
They are used on TF1's news studio in France:

This image of the new BBC World News set looks like it has the same type of camera, I think:

I'm no expert, they just look similar. Still, the new BBC News Channel/National bulletins set looks good!

I wonder which set is on those gallery screens.

It's Studio B - you can clearly make out the distinct 3 screen setup seen in the renders. There's also a wider shot on a smaller screen showing the secondary presentation area to the left.

Which makes sense as it will be one of the first studios seen on screen for programmes like the Marr Show and Newsnight after summer I believe.
