Nice video that, and it's a reasonable demonstration of how music is 'bar counted' by the PA (though it would help if we could see the actual mixed output along with the talkback track.) I love the bit at the Television Theatre where the PA gets the bar count wrong Smile And yes, the cameraman crashing into the set at 1'50 and the set falling down at 2'21" is also amusing!

the original "Childrens" sign from the broom cupboard being installed and lit up in Media City

That's pretty awesome - where is it?

I think there were originally two of those signs, one in the broom cupboard and one on the Birthdays set in Pres A.

I know Kirsten O'Brien had one of them at one point (which would make sense as she was a continuity presenter when they were removed from Studio 9 at the 1997 rebrand). She had it in her front room! (this was on some BBC3 doc a few years back)

A gallery of some of the highlights from Salford in the past year - now the BBC's first anniversary of their operations in their new Northern hub.

What a great year it has been, and every success for the many years to come. It really shows how much has gone on here in the past year, and for me, how successful it has been with connecting with local audiences too and maintaining and bettering the quality of programmes here.

Also, the BBC's Ben Thompson on a tour of Broadcast House posted a photo looking down on newsroom.

Another peek at the News Channel studio!

Today marked another milestone for Broadcasting House - our first live TV broadcast from the new building. Here's the BBC Russian bulletin which went out at 1500BST -

I hear that this is only a temporary studio for BBC Russian. It will soon be going back to CSO with BBC Urdu(?) moving to that studio. It's a nice studio in middle of office space. Behind the cameras is a radio studio (can't remember for what but there is).

I thought that studio space is for the use of all of the language services, and in that way is very flexible in who uses it.

They could very well do that. Just that I heard BBC Russian only had their first real studio temporarily before moving to CSO.

The above I would assume would be the same as this image below, which people were wondering about a few months ago.

Yeah. That's the same studio. Those radio booths are great. The lighting bar around the top turns to orange/red when the programme goes to air. Very cool

Someone mentioned that the secondary BBC Sport studio was used the other day for the rugby. It has since appeared on iPlayer, so here are a few shots of Claire Balding and company from Salford.

I find the background very strange and inconsistent. There is the orange sheet or something behind the two pundits which is lit very nicely, but then stops suddenly for a view of some screens behind the frosted perspex in the presenter shot. There are also other very strange square-shaped items by the orange that just make it look weird and unprofessional. Otherwise, a really good, versatile little space which is more than sufficient for this sort of sporting coverage.

So the idea that BBC World News uses the second studio is not true then?

I think that looks much better than the 'bunker' used on news bulletins; much brigher.

I thought part of the idea was to have a unified sport branding - how does the orange fit in with that. Also, it is strange seeing the desk at that angle with half the lit up panel not showing. I think some of the regions have desks that do that, but personally I think it just looks odd.

Pretty average set, really. Both of the BBC Sport sets leave a lot to be desired but the secondary one in particular seems poorly thought out. The way the've stuck that wall up behind the glass is a very lazy way of resolving the issue of not having a newsroom view - surely it would've been better to design a unique set for that space rather than using a shoddily modified duplicate of the main set?

Some nice pictures here of the building of BH, and its lovely interiors:

There is a very strong uniformed Sport brand now, but the studios seems to allowed to have a unique look per Sport. It's no different to lighting the main studio and putting programme specific image on the screens for Match of the Day or Final Score.

When you say both BBC Sport sets, do you mean to the two in BBC Sport Centre or the main Match of The Day and co one and the secondary one?
