What's this...? Is it in NBH?

They're clearly LED displays, probably for displaying news headlines, upcoming events or something similar .

That's definitely Swiss721 in use on those LED Strips. Not Helvetica, and certainly not Gill Sans. It is a shame really, as Swiss is quite a bland font and something like Bliss, Avenir (used by BBC Two), or Futura (Old BBC Font from the 90's) would look nice in HD, and would fit in with the BBC Brand better IMO.

It could be a still image that's been knocked up.

Err - it's test content... I'd look at in the same way you look at colour bars.

It has been said that the new HD graphics due to come along with the move, will be ditching Gill Sans in favour of Helvetica/Swiss. I would imagine this is why that font is being used for the "TEST CONTENT". I just wish they wouldn't go back to Swiss (which is what they used in 2007 before the new white look came into use) - when there are so many others which would fit better with Gill Sans which will still be used for titles and logos.

Pick up cupboard with offending vent. Turn 90 degrees anti-clockwise.

...extinguish fire when unvented cabinet ignites? Razz

I know the point you're trying to make but it's quite a subtle representation

Perhaps but it's totally unnecessary. They could have used a plain vent and branded the cabinet with a stick-on decal if it's really necessary. Even then, how much extra have they paid to have the vents on cabinets cut with a BBC globe, as opposed to using standard vents?

It's a curved vent. On a cupboard. In the corner of a room. The design is so abstract that most of the people who will be using the room probably won't recognise the link to BBC News - if they notice the cabinet at all.

Trivial matters indeed.

Hi Josh. Any chance of using the Metropol upload service instead of image shack? Lets you post much bigger photos and doesn't keep trying to open annoying popups Smile

Cheers.

Josh, surely annoying popups which only occur during the free upload of pics/vids via TinyPic or Photobucket are better than the 'price' of membership of a dwindling band of sanctimonious individuals?

Thanks very much, joshtoday, for sharing those photos! They really show the dimensions of the studio very well, especially the length of it. Also you can see a considerable distance from the window to the desk, probably to capitalise most on a good perspective of the newsroom background from the presenters.

Although it's difficult to judge, it does look like the ceiling height is quite large. I'm just thinking about those renders we saw of this studio on the forum, and it's fair to say that it will look amazing once it's all finish, I'm sure you'll agree.

Joshtoday, are you able to regularly capture these, so we can monitor the progress of the fit-out? I would love to see how this comes along in the next few months.

Today marked another milestone for Broadcasting House - our first live TV broadcast from the new building. Here's the BBC Russian bulletin which went out at 1500BST -

I hear that this is only a temporary studio for BBC Russian. It will soon be going back to CSO with BBC Urdu(?) moving to that studio. It's a nice studio in middle of office space. Behind the cameras is a radio studio (can't remember for what but there is).

I thought that studio space is for the use of all of the language services, and in that way is very flexible in who uses it.

They could very well do that. Just that I heard BBC Russian only had their first real studio temporarily before moving to CSO.
