Imperial College London submits plans for BBC site
Imperial College London has submitted outline plans to create an academic campus on a former BBC site at White City after it ceases operation.
The institution’s proposals, drawn up by architecture firms Aukett Fitzroy Robinson and PLP Architecture, include plans for an 87,900sq metres development with research and teaching facilities, plus commercial and residential space.
Imperial West project director John Anderson said: "Imperial West will enable the college to expand upon the success of its South Kensington site to create a second, open access academic campus that provides the physical infrastructure for world-class research and teaching, leading-edge facilities for business development and technology transfer, and create an attractive environment to live and work in."
He said that the redevelopment scheme could create more than 3,000 long-term jobs.
The BBC put the site up for sale in June last year after operating from location since 1960, and it expects to cease operations there at the end of 2013.
