I just found this picture on LJ Rich's Flikr

http://www.flickr.com/photos/ljrich/5631925846/

It says on her text underneath 'view from media cafe - spiral staircase and the news gallery'.

I only comment because it looks like she's talking about the big glass box where the news channel is supposed be situated, but she says it's the gallery. Mistake?

I think she is referring to the "gallery" above where the studio will be located. I think she means "gallery" as in viewing area, not necessarily gallery as in a tv studio gallery Wink The studio is below - you can just make it out with the cardboard boxes in it.

A great set of photos from around TVC from the past few years, including some of the lesser-seen bits of the building, and some which have been locked up for quite some time:

Why do they never use this shot on the news? Looks great...

(oops - the orginal pic on that website is huge, hope they don't mind that I've rescaled it and uploaded here..._

Also, what's below the doughnut? Never knew there were windows in the middle and something below it...

There's office space down there - later on, you can see a photo taken from inside it.

VT was originally based down here, so that there could be cable runs of equal length to each of the main block studios.

It's a good shot because it was taken with a smaller SLR camera with a wide lens that's practically on the desk itself. The studio cameras on their peds wouldn't be able to go over the desk light that, and they couldn't get that close anyway because the peds would hit the base of the rostrum (baking tray).

I knew there was an old part of Stage 1 for cyclorama however I never knew it was quite so massive. How on earth has that not been redone into offices or something useful? Surely its been out of actions for years if not decades.
