I think somebody has been playing with the fire alarm systems at Quay House, evacuated again this morning bringing 5Live and Radio Manchester off air for a brief period.

Well that's at least three times the alarms have gone off and taken programmes off air in recent weeks. Call me old fashioned but shouldn't properly designed studio areas have lights installed to indicate there's an alarm and not klaxons and recorded PA announcements? Sounds very unprofessional in my opinion for the presenter to be apologising over a very loud PA system. That Michael Palin interview needs to get played out in full I think, I've only heard the first few minutes of it ... Smile

I believe that alarms are silent if they do not require the evacuation of that part of the building. Once however evacuation of that part of the building is required then the alarm will be both visual and audiable - otherwise there would be a risk that some people would not be aware of the need for evacuation.

I thought I read on here or in an article that the Andrew Marr show would move a week or two before the Sunday Politics, with Newsnight to follow?

This took a while to hunt down but:

TC7 will close first, once NN is up and running in Studio B, because it needs to be handed back to resources.
Marr will be the first programme from Studio B in early Sept, with Sunday Politics a week or two later and NN on air soon after that.
Once TC7 is shut expect the 1700 to move to N8, to allow the Six record & rehearsal, and the full 2100 hour likewise.
This is all, obviously, dependant on timelines not shifting too much!

So nothing in Studio B until September, but World News before the Olympics? This means that World News will be first in?

This article: http://www.bbc.co.uk/ariel/16049694

and the BH Newsletter from November found on this page:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/broadcastinghouse/news_events.shtml

as well as various in-the-know people on this forum, and Ros Atkins, have confirmed that BBC World News will be moved in before the olympics.

However, that is assuming timescales don't slip.

We should find out more soon, as we are due a new BH Newsletter before the end of February.

The Ariel article says it all...

Jan 2012 - Tech Ops support teams
March 2012 - World Service language hubs journalists, first to broadcast from the new integrated HQ
Before July 2012 - Newsnight & World Service News (i.e radio - not World News TV)
Late summer 2012 - World TV, News Online, most of Business and the majority of the News specialists
Autumn 2012 - Domestic radio news along with Radio 1 and 1Xtra
1st half 2013 - domestic tv news and the weather operation

Call me a bit slow but is that highlighted section the news on BBC One and or BBC News (Channel) because why are we getting the scraps again here in the UK and when BBC World News vacates N8 [am I right from reading that this is the right studio they are in at the moment] would it ever be possible for BBC News (Channel) to move back in there again?

And what would happen overnight with Newsday and weekend bulletins will they come from Broadcasting House or Television Centre?

As Media Boy said when TC7 Closes, N8 would be used for the News at Five whilst N6 prepared for the Six and BBC World News would provide the full 9 o'clock hour before the Ten (presumably from BH).

Presumably, Newsday, as it is produced by BBC World News would come from their studios at Broadcasting House.

Sorry but I read Media Boy's comment to mean that the entire 2100 hour will come from N8.

In the part of MediaCity I'm in, the alarms are a visual light and an announcement played on the PA system, which I believe is setup that way with the intention that studios have just the lights not the PA system. Not having seen the 5 Live studio however, correct me if I'm wrong and they have put in the PA system.

Erm, I believe domestic news will move last as its the biggest and most important part of the operation. World being put in there first means that the "less important" (in terms of licence fee payer rage) channel can find all the faults before N24 moves in.

Just imagine the Daily Mail headlines if anything major went wrong technically!

They've realised it's too windy to film on the roof? Or that it's free to film on the public piazza as opposed to booking the rooftop garden and paying for it?

Considering people managed to dodge security and break into high security TV Centre to trash the garden, I don't think this will survive long. Security can't be stood there 24 hours a day. I give it four weeks before the statue of Petra is nicked and sold for scrap metal. Oh, as it's Salford, 3 weeks.

Just catching up on this having just seen the programme where they unveiled the new garden. I don't really see it's any more or less likely to be vandalised than any other public garden. The fact it is in a public area now would presumably make it less of a temptation than one which is very famous and secure behind a very high wall. It's also more visible.

I'm really impressed by the effort taken to relocate the garden, it didn't occur to me they'd take the 'Italian Sunken Garden' there piece by piece

It's also right next to the Metrolink stop which has it's own CCTV cameras. Not sure if any of the cameras have a view
of the garden though. It is, as you say, in a public area. Any attempts at vandalism are unlikely in broad daylight on
a wide open space with full public access. Could be some attempts late at night though.

The BBC could always install a small camera close by which could be used for CCTV and as an official webcam.
