Sorry for sounding stupid, but BBC London are also moving? Confused

IIRC BBC London (the TV bit at least) are in a temporary location in Broadcasting House at the moment until their permanent facilities are ready.

I have heard from somewhere that London will relocating elsewhere in the building temporarily, having their current studio overhauled, then moving back. I can't quite remember who told me that, though, so I'm not sure how much truth can be attached to it.

What about the rest of their facilities? Weren't Radio producers editing in the corridors?

I notice there appears to be a bank of lights running along the beam in that picture of the newsroom. Wonder if they're for parts of the newsroom that may be used as presentation bits or just for snazzy lighting effects?

It's the huge number of LED soft lights which intregues (sp?) me, I know they're quite powerful, but at the distances they've got them, what exactly are they going to be lighting up? The smattering of LED parcans is more understandable, and at least it's all LED so they won't have to get a MEWP in weekly to change the lamps which looks like could be a *bit* of a challenge.

For the Twitter picture, both desks look incredibly low though, especially the one furthest away?

That's why I guessed BBC London, as they have history with unusual desks!

Doesn't nees to be one whole plasma unit Wink

And that will look lovely.

I mean, how much nicer does this plasma wall...

...look compared to this Barco wall...

It won't be seen from Studio E.

Which raises the question of whether there will be a presentation point from this mezzanine.

How about a 'track' cam stretching one side of the ceiling, which would give great views of that circular screen and the newsroom below?

Am I getting ahead of myself? Probably... Laughing

You're closer to the truth than you think. They fully plan to make use of the newsroom during the opening wides...

When they moved into BH I was told that the current setup was only temporary and they'd be moving closer to the national news when the rest of BH was finished.

I think the plan is to integrate the technical systems so everyone uses the same - BBC London's too is temporary - obviously they couldn't get the system that will be installed everywhere else as that wasn't known 3 years ago. Moving out and back is a possibility so that can be done

Interesting but not as bad as it seems on the face of it in my opinion. Yes, lots of jobs in Salford are just relocated people, but in the future there's no reason why more jobs will be created for northerners. In addition, more people moving to the area can surely do no harm for the local economy?

The BBC would not have won either way.

They would be criticised for not recruiting enough people in the Salford area.
They would be criticised if no one had relocated and all those people had ended up being made redundant and the associated cost and impact that would have had.

As you say going forward those in Salford have a good opportunitiy of gaining jobs. There may well be more work experience opportunties than would have been in the area previously.

Just learned from Ross Atkins on Twitter that World Have Your Say (his BBC World show) is moving to BH in June. Very Happy

I know but I wanted a specific date/month cause I wasn't sure if it's summer or later this year. Can't wait.

Courtesy of the fantastic #behindthescenes posts on Twitter from various insiders, it's come to light that the Sports News studio on the ground floor at Salford will have a second presentation area that will be used for sports bullies on World, and as a down the line camera
