Do we reckon this implies the One, Six and Ten will be a different set? We always thought there would be five studios but assumed one would include BBC London. This could just be a semantics error though.

The print edition has a schematic which shows the following:
Studio A: Virtual Reality
Studio B (Big Flexible): Newsnight, World News, Marr
Studio C: World News
Studio D: BBC London
Studio E: News Channel

E is in the lower ground floor, with the newsroom view, the rest are in the sub-basement.

Oh yes I remember that being posted now. I think noggin might have sugggested that Studio B could be used for things such as the five o'clock news hour and for the hour before the ten to provide rehearsal times. Of course, I think this is still all speculation.

Which leaves the One, Six and Ten where? Still, interesting that World News will have access to two different studios regularly. Makes sense, if Studio B would otherwise stand empty most of the time. Presumaly the original plan to have five studios was assuming a TC7-style studio would be needed for programmes like Breakfast and Working Lunch. Still, it all rather makes me think studios B, C and D will utilise N6/TC7 style sets - very flexible, but dead boring.

Until we see photos and proof from the BBC that unequivocally states what studios/presentation points are to be used by what channel/programme... this is all meaningless speculation, and I will continue to look at it with total cynicism.

As I have said before, that 6 months or so before they move in, i very much doubt they have made any final decisions on studio allocation (except BBC London who have already moved in).

Based on comments on here that hinted the Newsroom would be used 'differently' for presentation (Like Sky and Aljazeera) I'm betting that different studios will have different purposes. ie, bulletin, debate, multipurpose etc. Shared by all outputs, and there will definitely be other presentation points within the newsroom itself. Just look at that big ring in the ceiling which would not be seen by that lower-ground studio, why would they put it there unless there is another studio on the level above that can see it.

...and despite it being repeatedly stated on here, i have still not seen any reliable confirmation that the studio seen in photos that looks out on the newsroom will belong to the News Channel (euch, i hate calling it that).

There was some form of confirmation - I think the Flickr photo was uploaded by someone involved in the Broadcasting House project. One of the insiders on this forum also gave us the above information regarding the studio allocation (but obviously as you said, it could change).

I'm sure it was actually the controller of the BBC News channel, Kevin Bankhurst, who confirmed that it was in fact the NCs studio.

In total, five brand new sets will have to be installed for the One, Six and Ten, Newsnight/World News and the News Channel.

Do we reckon this implies the One, Six and Ten will be a different set?

As has been pointed out numerous times over the years, set != studio. Breakfast and Newsnight used to share a studio, yet had completely different sets. It's not beyond the realm of possibility that the same could happen in BH.

Could someone provide a scan of that schematic, for those of us who only have the online version of Ariel?

Errr I never said that wouldn't happen. Set doesn't = studio either as you've put in your post. It's more than feasible (assuming the News Channel's studio is big enough) for two sets to be housed in the same studio - N9 for example. I was merely responding to the article.

Please read my post before patronisingly correcting me when there's nothing to be corrected.

I think maybe you meant 'studio' when you actual said 'set', hence the confusion?

No, the article says:

so I meant set.

I thought it was quite clear really.

My mistake, I now understand. Sorry for the confusion, Chris. But the question is did the article mean set or studio? If you needed to keep changing sets in a particular studio as part of regular scheduling, would you regard that as 'installing' them?

So News not moving in until 2017!

OK, they say 2013 in the article, but they've said 2008 in the past, and the last I heard 2012, so if they now say 2013... who knows!
