I love this sort of architecture - where bits of the engineering are exposed. The joins are the best bit!
One of my favourite buildings is Westminster tube station - the concrete, ventilation shafts and all the exposed engineering is just amazing. They could encase it all, hide it all away, but this would take away from the effect of this being a cathedral of transport, instead of the usual dingy tube station.
Well it's funny, nobody complimented the unfinished concrete pillars until I pointed out how naff they look, and now they're the best thing since sliced bread. lol.

That's good news. I wonder if the BBC One bulletins will remain in the same studio too or whether there are arrangements to allow two studios be run by the same gallery to keep the staffing cost cuts made in 2008.
Confirmed: this
is
to be the studio for the BBC News Channel when they move to Broadcasting House next year:

@kevinbakhurst is this the studio where the BBC News Channel will come from when you move to Broadcasting House http://fro.gy/13fzn

That's an interesting question actually, given at present the News at Ten comes from N6's gallery (and a separate production team) while the 21:30-22:00 part of the News Channel's schedule comes from N8's gallery. Even if you didn't require studio-swapping for that back half hour when they move to Broadcasting House, presumably the Ten would still need to come from a different gallery to the NC?
I wonder if the NC could still move to the WN gallery , if not studio, as it would be the only gallery (assuming there were three in active use) not in use in the run up to the ten. Realistically, though, does the Ten need to rehearse in-studio?
It's a bit silly really, as in many ways the Ten is the most logical national bulletin to share facilities with another service due to the typically lower levels of breaking news in evenings than daytime.

I was under the impression that the BBC jut didn't 'do' live newsroom backdrops on the national bulletins. If I remember rightly, the cream era had a timeshifted video of the newsroom to avoid any accidents.
I'm guessing the nationals and Newsnight will share a separate studio somewhere else in the building; therefore still only needing three news studios but without having to use a live backdrop on the nationals. If that makes sense.

Well two regions have live newsrooms and have lasted a while without problem or incident, one of which has both places to jump and was not really obstructed by any sort of filter.

I thought it was half live - one side of it was delayed because one half was a mirror image of the other side. They delayed one half so you didn't have someone walking down the stairs at the same time on both sides.
I seem to remember reading that on one occasion following a power cut, news programmes were coming from any studio that could be persuaded to work and Newsnight ended up in N6 but with both halves of the screen being live. People commented that it looked very odd.
How will that work with the Ten/Newsnight conflict with them needing a separate studio so the latter can rehearse or prep while the former is on air?

It was all delayed but one half was more delayed than the other. Watch this video two minutes in:
Of course, the 2002 version onwards was a recording which was "touched up" to make the newsroom look nicer.

Was that much of an issue when they shared TC7 in early 2008? I can't see why Newsnight can't rehearse before the Ten, vacate and then move back in again, perhaps even moving Newsnight back fifteen minutes. I just can't see them having a studio just for Newsnight and the weekend programmes like The Politics Show.
Unless the Ten will come from the News Channel studio with the One and Six from the TC7 equivalent? Time will tell I suppose...
