Am I the only person who thinks the blue LED uplighting makes it look incredibly tacky and chavvy? It's SO 2001.

haha, it's ok, but I imagine it would start grating on overnight staff if it bled through to the newsroom.

Think the long-exposure nature of that photo may make the lighting look brighter than it is in reality. Suspect it would be no major problem at all in a newsroom lit to normal office lighting levels.

Also suspect that they've put in RGB LED lighting - meaning you can chose what colour it is and aren't stuck with blue?

I was lucky enough to have a little wander around BH last week:

The main newsroom is in the basement; you can just about see the revolving doors of the 'journalism' reception above the glass studio space .

The rest of the main TV studios are below here.

Do we yet know if the glass studio space is for the News Channel?

I doubt any studio allocations have been given yet. I would hope it's for the news channel however.

Confirmed: this is to be the studio for the BBC News Channel when they move to Broadcasting House next year:

I wish they'd paint those concrete pillars.

Why? Just why? They'd look so cheap if they were painted. Leave them as they are, showing the guts of the building. Concrete is such an underused finish - I love it.

They'll probably have monitors attached to the pillars when they do the fit out. Even if they do leave the concrete finish (which I quite like) you won't see much of them

The pillars already look cheap by virtue of being concrete.

It wouldn't be so bad if you couldn't see the joins, but you can - both on the pillars and around the top of the wall.

They'd look great painted cappuccino.

Painting them looks worse, cappuccino? They are near on cappuccino as they are!

Yeah, but you can see the joins!

Weren't they supposed to be clad in plastic until the BBC ran out of money?

It's not 100% ready yet, who knows what will happen!

What's wrong with letting a building be itself, instead of trying to hide how it actually is. Don't say 'because it's ugly' - if you look at the posts above yours, you'll see that that's definitely up for debate, and thus isn't a reason for your opinion to be heard above others'. Smile
