Some more photographs from various Flickr sources; Nick Holt (below) and a few more on crirgwin's photostream. Christ, it's looking stunning.

Anyone think the BBC should buy this image and use it as an image in the new public areas of BH as it looks brilliantly stunning?

I only got around to watching it last night, but last week's This is Britain with Andrew Marr had lots of sequences filmed inside the atrium of BH. If you don't get a chance to watch it (before 10pm tonight), there are a couple of clips and stills on the above link showing it.

I was lucky enough to have a little wander around BH last week:

The main newsroom is in the basement; you can just about see the revolving doors of the 'journalism' reception above the glass studio space.

The rest of the main TV studios are below here.

I notice their paywall is working again. How annoying.

I though there'd be a little bit more in terms of fitting out now, if only floor panels up for cable installation

Do we yet know if the glass studio space is for the News Channel?

Until the building is formally handed over, it is unlikely installation would start in anger. It would be very difficult to do the required building snagging etc. if system integrators were in and the office tech being fitted. It would be very difficult to separate what was a building issue and what was a system integration/fit out issue - and you'd end up with a mess.

Builds like this work in stages. The architects and builders are responsible for delivering the core building fabric, and once they have finished this, and it has been formally accepted by the BBC it will then be handed over to the BBC, who may themselves hand it over to a new team for fit out (or they may supervise this themselves). Once this has happened the system integrators etc. can start the fit-out. You wouldn't start fit-out until hand over - and AIUI the tours are happening just before this happens, as it will be impossible to do major tours once fit-out starts.

indeed, it's still in the CDM (Construction, Design and Management) stage - I had to wear hi-vis, hard hat and boots.

Yep. I've worked on a few projects where system integration has stared BEFORE hand over - and doing complex fit-out in a CDM-controlled environment can be pretty tricky.

Am I the only person who thinks the blue LED uplighting makes it look incredibly tacky and chavvy? It's SO 2001.
