There's some panoramic distortion on that photo that is making it look a lot worse than it is in reality. Personally I found the Spur / Stage V / Stage VII a bit of a carbuncle (the mis-match of building materials between Spur and Stage V always looked like a bodge) Don't find the new building too objectionable.

Are the studios owned by the BBC still?
And TVC is officially open!
First show to be recorded was The Jonathan Ross Show on Wednesday night:

Are the studios owned by the BBC still?
Judging from this, I believe multiple TV companies might use these studios to be fair.

As I understand it, the buildings are owned by Stanhope but leased to BBC Studioworks who operate them as a commercial studio business. Any production company can hire the studio space and / or production services from Studioworks.

Think the BBC actually retain the freehold to the site currently (for reputational protection reasons ISTR), so BBC are freeholders, Stanhope have bought a long term lease of the site, and BBC Studioworks are then leasing the space for the studio operation from Stanhope.
BBC Studioworks is a wholly owned commercial subsidiary of the BBC (a bit like BBC Worldwide - and presumably now BBC Studios) who operate the studios on a commercial basis, available to all. (As the deal with ITV for the long term hire of TCs 2 3 for ITV Daytime demonstrates...)

Its a 999 year lease on the building & building rights with the BBC holding the freehold of the land with a cashback clause on premiums from the development.
Its a strange and complicated world these days where a BBC1 programme such as Graham Nortons show is owned by ITV who will in all likelyhood make it in BBC premises which the BBC used to own but sold then rented them back.
