Shows the extent of the change. Thank god it was listed, that totally saved it... A bit like Battersea power station, which is listed and most listed are its iconic chimneys...

Oh right.. "preserved" by demolition...

Indeed, although the VT department moved into stage V in the early 1990s and the bit under the fountain was converted to offices with a weird skylight roof surrounding the Helios statue.

Well it saved the recognisable bits, there's no way that the whole complex should have been listed. Not only was a lot of it not that nice or interesting, but it would have made it a white elephant as no-one, not even the BBC could have done anything with it.

Yes it would have been nice if a couple more studios were kept but that was a commercial decision by the BBC

Well yes they are being. They're rusting and won't last long. If they weren't listed then I'm sure the developers would have rather demolished them rather than the hassle of building replicas.

Listing's all very well but not if the thing is going to disintegrate or end up unused because it can't be touched

Looking at those pics of TVC, it seems that only really the central doughnut and a few other bits and pieces were actually "listed" then?

Which is far from the impression that I was under, during the period leading up to the 2013 closure.

Central doughnut, and TC1 are the listed bits, I think?

I think it's actually only the facade of TC1
