NRK in Oslo and SVT in Stockholm both have TV studio set-ups that are quite similar to an unrolled TV Centre in some ways. When you are in them you have a definitely TVC feel.

Is it NRK's centre that is in a U shape, with the apparatus rooms at the ends of the U because they face north therefore are colder?

Goldenballs and Pointless film a huge amount of episodes in massive blocks so they would have been able to negotiate a cheaper price.

Isn't that the point. If you could provide a decent chunk of work, you'd obviously get a better rate. One-off bookings will always be more expensive than a block of work.

Plus TVC is just around the corner from Endemol's offices so convenience no doubt would have been a factor, I can imagine they spent less on hiring out production offices in TVC.

Again - isn't that what you'd expect. A decent West London location, with parking, which is convenient for production team and crew can charge a premium if it needs to...

Quote:

From what I've been told they never did mates rates for in house and as such they could often find better and more modern studios at a lower, or similar, price.

No - that was also the point. They were an independent subsidiary. Mates rates weren't on the cards after Producer Choice.

However in recent years (presumably as a result of Project Rainbow) - most (if not all) in-house productions were at TVC studios. Particularly as the number of smaller studio operations (Capital, MTV etc.) declined (presumably because they'd gone bust by not charging enough...), and the move to HD left those operations who had SD-only kit out in the cold.

A little update from TVC: the satellite platforms are now out of use. (I'm not sure what's happening to them, but if I hear of any auctions, then I'll be sure to post about it - 9m motorised Ku-band dish for your garden, harshy?) CCA are still there for another month or so though.

It's a bit of a shame that the placement of the camera means the 'Breathing' statue is obscured by the spire of All Souls. I've not been in that part of town at night lately - does it light up at 10pm, as originally planned?

A propos of this, I just revisited the breakdown from May where the News Channel used the Langham cam in place of a countdown (to see if it was any easier to see in the daylight), and noticed that at 4m40 in this clip, someone clearly knows they're on air Smile

Yes and it's very bright and clearly visible from Oxford Circus

The guy who "knows he's on air" walked past the reception window where a number of screens show BBC One/Two/NC/World output so he'll have seen the shot on the NC and gone from there..

Is the Building where the camera is, owned by the BBC? When I went on a tour of NBH there was a building to the right of all saints that was owned by the bbc but it wouldnt get the camera shots seen at 04:40 of the video. (Does anyone know who owns the building where the camera is situated?)

Haven't the BBC now vacated Henry Wood House (although I believe they've kept use of the car park)?

Yes, they left Henry Wood House a long while ago. I know a lot of the BH project team were in there so presumably once they were able to they moved over or on

Very Happy
As much as I would like a massive dish I doubt my neighbours or the local council would be amused Smile

Judging from the aspect of the image I would have thought the camera is mounted on the Langham Hotel across the road.

Looking on the outside of it, I can see something which might possibly be some sort of camera? The perspective kind of looks right. Confused
