from a thread over on the newsroom...

It appears that the contents of TVC are now on the market, up for auction.

Kitchen and catering items go first but "BBC memorabilia" from the building will go on sale on 11 July.

Details here: http://blog.roberttimothy.com/2013/06/BBC-Television-Centre-equipment-goes-on-public-auction-for-sale-includes-Corporation-memorabilia-from-iconc-building-in-West-London.html

It looks like some of the lots include things from the (not lamented) White City building too.

Three bits of TVC news for you.

Plenty of errors in geography, but this did look like rather good fun to make. It's online here. I still regret a little not having gone round the corridors on my bike late one night...

The second tranche of the TVC auction has gone online. The full catalogue isn't there yet, if you look at the flysheet you can get a good idea of what's for sale. It's mostly office furniture, but there's also the opportunity to own some 1936 editions of Ariel, the Prank Patrol van, or your very own Blue Peter set (including totaliser!).

Finally, Stanhope have submitted their planning application for their development plans:
Quote:
2013/02356/LBC | Internal and external alterations to the former BBC Television Centre buildings to include works to the Inner Ring, Helios Couryard and Forecourt area; roof top alterations to the Inner Ring; partial demolition of Stages 4 and 5 and demolition of Studios 4-8 and the wedge and erection of replacement structures; demolition of the Restaurant Block, Drama Block, East Tower and connecting bridges; demolition of gatehouses; removal of boundary treatment; proposed basement works; access and egress works; associated boundary treatment and landscaping; and other associated and ancillary works. | Former BBC Television Centre Wood Lane London W12

I've not had a chance to look through any of them yet, but there are 144 documents online on the H&F Planning website - including detailed current and proposed floor plans. It's still a bit odd to see the room where I worked for 5 years just not existing anymore...

[edit]
Oh, and there's even more in this separate application:
Quote:
2013/02355/COMB | Demolition of parts of the former BBC Television Centre and associated buildings and structures (including the Multi-Storey Car Park, Restaurant Block, Drama Block, East Tower, part of the outer ring of the main building) to facilitate comprehensive redevelopment of the site to constitute a mixed use development providing up to 1025 residential units and a range of land uses. Planning Permission is sought in detail for works to the main Television Centre building to comprise single and two storey extensions at roof level and basement, refurbishment of facades, provision of up to 6,182 sq m (GEA) new Class B1 (business) floorspace; change of use of parts of the building to provide Use Class C1 (hotel); C3 (residential) up to 447 units; A1 (shops); A2 (financial and professional services); A3 (restaurant); D1 (non-residential institutions);and D2 (assembly and leisure); and erection of new outer ring building ranging from 8 to 10 storeys to provide residential accommodation and B1 (business) floorspace; and redevelopment of the East Tower block to comprise erection of 25-storey building and two storey pavilion building to provide residential accommodation of up to 17,670 sq m (GEA) with provision of up to 1,363 sqm (GEA) flexible ground floor commercial use (Use Classes A1/A2/A3/B1/D1/D2); provision of car, cycle and motorcycle parking within new basement, hard and soft landscaping within new public forecourt and Helios courtyard, new shared pedestrian/vehicular routes, installation of new plant machinery. (Internal landscaping to inner block and internal layout of tall building to be reserved). Planning Permission is sought (with all matters to be reserved) for the erection of four new blocks ranging from 4 to 10 storeys to provide Use Class C3 (residential); and flexible A1/A2/A3/A4/D1/D2; provision of car parking; hard and soft landscaping areas; alterations to the vehicular and pedestrian routes and accesses and other associated works. | Former BBC Television Centre Wood Lane London W12

Oh that's just sad, it's nice to see how they are doing the residential thing, detaching it from the central ring, but ugh, it sucks that is happening, seeing the architect drawings just makes it real. Hate hate hate.

Looks like Studio 8 isn't getting the reprieve many hoped.

It does look like the studio operation when it returns and BBC Worldwide when they move are going to be working in the middle of a building site for quite some time...

Does Film.... still come from the One Show Studio and if so will it be moving with it to NBH?

Last Friday afternoon I went on a tour of BBC Broadcasting House. I have to say I was left a little dissappointed at what we actually get to see. Whilst I fully appreciate it's a working building an security is paramount I can't help but feel the tour could have shown us at least a little more of the building. Didn't get to step inside one single tv or radio studio which I was a little dissapointed by. What's more nearly half the tour felt like it was conducted outside the building. It was great to get a good view of the newsroom & part of Studio E from the media café but would loved to have seen more. Only famous person I spotted (well famous to us here) was Chris Cook leaving the building as I was sat outside Café Nero about 17:30 ish. I didn't even have the courage to go and say hello to him but then it was Friday night, everyone just wants to get home without being hassled.

Sounds like it has got even worse than it was when I did it a few months ago. At least we got to see the old temporary BBC London studio.

I'm afraid I have found all of the BBC tours (with the exception of Manchester's NBH) to be a little disappointing in terms of what you actually get to see. But then there are, as you say, security considerations, and one also has to accept that the average touree is not interested in the same things that I am.

I've said before that I think there would be a market for a smaller, less frequent, more detailed "technical" tour, carried out by someone who actually knows what they are talking about, rather than an anecdote re-teller. By all means charge more - there are interested people out there who would pay.

Visit Broadcasting House Belfast. You get to see the BBC Newsline tv studio, a presentation suite and meet the Continuity Director/Announcer on duty, and then a radio studio.

Loads of interesting items in there, funny how well the TVC signs (loads of which infamously went missing towards the end) are selling for up to £41! No wonder the BBC were so desperate to stop people from taking them! I'm surprised they found that many left to be honest.

There are a few cheeky ones in there though. Some of the framed pictures are, I'm pretty sure, literally just press photos printed onto regular (not glossy) A4 paper and stuck in a cheap from. And yet some of these such as the Dragon's Den one have got bids pushing the price up.

And interesting to see they're using the studios as storage for many of these items. You can see the zig zag floor left behind in TC10 by Charlie Brooker's Weekly Wipe in a few of the images.

It's all very sad but it's good to see the BBC at least making some money of the left behind items and not just throwing much of it in the skip. Although I'm sure that's what will happen to whatever doesn't get sold...

And judging from the conditions winning bidders get to pick the items up from TVC itself. What a treat! Very Happy

Unfortunately, that's what's putting me off bidding for anything, especially larger items. I'm 200+ miles away,
and I don't have a van! I doubt they'd let me on the train with the old Blue Peter set, or the Newsnight sofa!
