Thatcher death exposes BBC archive transfer issues

I know there used to be a line from the old BBC archive place so items could be fed down from there, I assume Perivale doesn't have one?

There is, but that's only good for one tape at a time. I guess previously a lot of news archive was held on-site in TVC, and it's been moved up to Perivale too.
(The sensible solution would seem to be to digitise it all in Perivale and file transfer it from there, but perhaps they don't have the facilities or the staff to do that there.)

Yes indeed. Later has been using TC1 for a few years (since they introduced the live edition I think), before that it was a regular TC4 booking. I assume there's either not enough capacity at Elstree or they needed a larger studio space than was available there? (Or maybe it was that Maidstone is more convenient location-wise?). There's a large studio space known as Studio 5 at Maidstone (12,000 sq ft according to TV Studio History, which makes it a touch larger than TC1) which is used for Take Me Out among other shows. It's licensed for a studio audience of up to 2,400!!

Later's last series from TVC came from TC4, it was only the last episode that came from TC1.

Found this on Dick and Dom's Twitter feed, apologies if it's already been posted.

Hopefully nowhere, it is rubbish.

It'll come from one of the many TV studios in London that haven't been closed, much like all the other programmes on the BBC.

Is there a list somewhere of all programmes that were made at TVC and where they are made now?

Hasn't been announced yet, AFAIK. Plenty of places to choose from. Next series of 10 O'Clock Live is coming from Pinewood, for example.

Went past TVC again tonight and there was a long red box on top of TC1, possibly one of those LED tickers they used to put there for general elections. Any ideas what it's there for, perhaps something to do with the developers taking over? I'm certain it wasn't there last week.

Also the BBC News ticker within reception continues to roll on and remains updated (presumably taking a feed from the website). No one's reading it though... Sad

Hasn't that been there for years?

Oh judging from Google Images maybe it has been! I didn't notice it once when I worked there, maybe it can't be seen when looking up from the horseshoe. I wonder when it was last used.

I seem to remember it being put there for some big event like Children in Need many years ago. I don't think it's been used for ages, but mind you it's old technology now - it would look a bit dated on screen

It was put on the top of TC1 for one of the past General Elections I think - with results displayed on it. Not sure if 2001 or 2005 - but it wasn't for the most recent one. Can't remember if it appeared on-screen or not.

Was only used for one programme AFAIK - think there were concerns about it being distracting for traffic driving along Wood Lane. Lots of rumblings at the time that there was a mistake made with the dimensions (suggesting it should have run the whole length of the top of TC1)
