The middle plasma is showing some BBC News technical idents used by SCAR to identify circuits (they are often accompanied by a line ident with a BBC News music mix bed). If BBC News are lining up a circuit (say to feed to another broadcaster, or to another bit of the BBC) that is what will be used to identify the circuit prior to the feed in many cases.

These are never 'for broadcast' - and generated totally separately, and nothing to do with the on-air look. Other broadcasters might just use colour bars etc.

Yes, the caption says 'Radio Transmission' - it's what you get/got if you selected a router source like 5 Live or Radio 4

Is SCAR still up and running? I'm guessing it closed with the rest of the TVC News Centre.

Is it not in the new place?

I think it has a different name in BH.

The SCAR operation is now in BH, and known as MCR2. The old SCAR is still powered up, but anything being done there is controlled remotely from MCR2.

CCA is pretty much the only thing that's business as usual in TVC.

MCR2 isn't as fun sounding as SCAR, I know the S stood for Spur but surely they could've creatively dragged the name over somehow!

So 'Later with Jools Holland', ex TVC, is now coming from Maidstone.

Yes indeed. Later has been using TC1 for a few years (since they introduced the live edition I think), before that it was a regular TC4 booking. I assume there's either not enough capacity at Elstree or they needed a larger studio space than was available there? (Or maybe it was that Maidstone is more convenient location-wise?). There's a large studio space known as Studio 5 at Maidstone (12,000 sq ft according to TV Studio History, which makes it a touch larger than TC1) which is used for Take Me Out among other shows. It's licensed for a studio audience of up to 2,400!!

I heard somewhere (wasn't on this thread, was it?) that the sound desk at Maidstone played a part in them getting the gig.

Yes, one of the advantages was the sound desk, it was one of the main considerations:
Jools Finds New Home at Maidstone

Although as pointed out on last nights show by Brett Anderson, Maidstone is quite near to Jools Hollande's house!

Thatcher death exposes BBC archive transfer issues

I know there used to be a line from the old BBC archive place so items could be fed down from there, I assume Perivale doesn't have one?
