A little article about the Salford Quays buidlings, including some pics of the inside fit out so far:

http://www.propertyweek.com/comment/analysis/busy-as-a-beeb-the-bbcs-relocation/5009123.article

The article says there's a 220,000 sq ft studio that can be leased out. Does anyone know how this size compares to TC1? It also says it will be used to produce Strictly - I never realised Strictly was moving as well?

TC1 is 10,250 sq ft and Fountain is 13,000sq ft so nearly an extra 3,000 sq ft makes a huge difference in space. TC1 is quite 'square' as well where as Fountain is longer rather than wider.

I think the term is "studio block" suggesting several studios (and their support rooms) within a 220,000 sq ft building

I see - in that sense 220,000 sq ft is quite big Very Happy I couldn't picture the size in my head.

Bet the Beeb put in some black signage written in Gill Sans on every door and corridor, with Braille beneath though...

What's wrong with Braille?

Nothing. In fact, I'm certain the BBC stated they must provide it at all key facilities.

That appears to be the writing of an over-excited (or badly briefed) journo.
It also claims Dragons Den will be made there. Well, at the moment DD is a BBC Manchester co-production, but is actually made at Pinewood Studios on a split level set, and as the dragons are pretty much London based, and the costs would add a extra zero to the budget...

...likewise driving up and putting up overnight (some of the contestants aren't going to stop at the Holiday Inn next door to the studio block) the dancers and celebs will add to the budget of Strictly. And what will that add to the average viewer, apart for Dedicote saying "live from Manchester" at the top of the show?
Foxtrot Alpha.

As I understand it, none of the studios will be BBC owned anyway - they'll all be leased to the BBC.

There'll be an awful lot of freelancers and other visitors in the building at any given point, so its an easy way to navigate to your department in an open plan office without lots of ugly signage.

Not a bad idea, really.

Oh, you cynic.

BBC signage is dark blue. Smile

That's...erm...quite stunning. I really do hope the news channel get to occupy that newsroom studio but something tells me it might end up being BBC World News...

And red and grey will still be the BBC News corporate colours..
