Sometimes it's felt that a reporter in the newsroom is bringing viewers the latest on a developing story, perhaps one where the pictures from the scene haven't yet made it back to base (or a sat truck hasn't arrived on site).
But that doesn't mean they can't just walk to the studio. The point about using the DTL position when there's limited staffing is a good one, but for the main bulletins there's no real excuse to do it.
I've seen even worse on South Today, one of those pointless 'one journalist interviewing another' pieces, with one sat in the newsroom, the other in the studio.
