I can't see any logical way that moving to the new BH would be more expensive, now that it's virtually complete especially as the WS will end up being merged with domestic TV/Radio

Moving out of a fully functional broadcast centre that has been kept up to date with technology, into the shell of a building that does not have a single technical cable laid into it yet?

The important word in your reply is of course 'yet'! Laughing

How possibly in the medium or long term could leasing a whole separate building be cheaper than moving into a new BBC building with other departments? The savings are immediately evident, especially when the wall of bureaucracy between the World Service and domestic BBC disappears in 2015

assuming BBC Property charge WS less per desk than they did in Bush House.

BTW: I've no idea what the actual figures are, so don't know if it's higher or lower. But we can all think of scenarios where it could be higher.

So when News moves to BH, where will they do General Elections from? TC1 would be a bit out of the way wouldn't it?

.. and possibly not owned by BBC Studios & Post Productions by the time of the next one. I'm sure someone high up in News will have thought about it (though not necessarily have been listened to by their higher-ups...)

A little article about the Salford Quays buidlings, including some pics of the inside fit out so far:

They've done a Mailbox again. Open plan offices with 'resource oases' (photocopier location) and staff 'chillout spaces' (staff room, to you or I). They've even done colour coordinated carpets based on department, are BBC staff dense or something? I'm sure they don't need colour to navigate a building! I predict NWT is going to be stuck with a view of the Manchester Ship Canal for 30 years from 2012 then...

Surely the colour coordinated carpets are just there as a nice little feature, rather than to help staff navigate the building.

Looks nice and stylish, nothing wrong with a bit of colour than plain old white.

There'll be an awful lot of freelancers and other visitors in the building at any given point, so its an easy way to navigate to your department in an open plan office without lots of ugly signage.

Not a bad idea, really.

Bet the Beeb put in some black signage written in Gill Sans on every door and corridor, with Braille beneath though...

Where are the doors and corridors in a large open space then?

Good Point, 'on every wall and pillar' would be more appropriate.
