Radio 1 must be close to moving into BH soon? A lot of the presenters seem to be mentioning it. Are they leaving Yalding House completely, or will 1Xtra still be there?

No, there's little point in just moving one station and they have a lot of combined resources

As I understand it the aim is to just have Broadcasting House and Western House, although I don't know whether they'll need to keep some others like Brock House and Henry Wood House in the short term now that White City is going

What is at Brock House and Henry Wood House?

I do like the reveal of where that fox actually is... Now the news where you are.

What programmes will come from this studio?

World News

I guess the BBC News at Five will also come from here - if World are in the basement and the Six are preparing in the news channel studio. And, the 9.30pm half hour as well. (If the same arrangement is kept)

I bet the news channel use a fake newsroom backdrop instead. Wink

I would expect a fake version of the real backdrop from Studio E to make it look like they haven't moved, and to avoid "London-centric" backlash.

I expect them to use N8 for the Five/9:30 bits to be honest - surely that's less faffing about?

I assume you mean whilst they're still in TVC? We're talking about post-move. I imagine moving back to N8 for two hours a day just post-BH move would be a bit of a faff!

My mistake - I was talking about after TC7 shuts! Embarassed

I'm sure you're right about the Five then - it might be a nice idea to make it a bit more old school Sky News style when they move - with some sweeping camera shots, lots of graphics and presentation styles - that would differentiate it from the normal NC bulletins a bit along with the different studio.

What is at Brock House and Henry Wood House?

They're both offices rather than used for production, Henry Wood House is at the top of Regent Street, the other side of All Souls from Broadcasting House. For years it was home to internal communications like the magazine Ariel and the Intranet sites, more recently I believe the project team for the BH project were in there.

Brock House is round the back of BH (I think), last I heard it housed some overspill from BBC London's move amongst other things.

I believe the BBC have handed back the lease for HWH. They're keeping Brock House - largely for admin workers ('professional services'), and the ground floor has been an engineering workshop for years now.

(They're both a stone's throw from BH.)

Does the ring above the newsroom only display the blurred white and red picture? I don't know if it's a lightbox with a printed picture, or a series of small monitors arranged to make a circle?

Also is there any presentation points in the actual newsroom like Sky News has/had? (Elbow, stairs, fin monitor, balcony, shoebox, etc)

It's LED so can display any form of image. The animation at the moment is very subtle and slow.

LED panels remove the limitations of shape when you're creating a display. You can add pieces in pretty much any configuration (into circles like the newsroom) and use software to deliver a video signal that will map across that shape. Strictly use a similar set-up to create the archway of moving video over the stage.

There are lightweight "mesh" systems (usually 1 square metre) that can be hung and connected together like a curtain. From a decent distance it looks like a wall of video. The panels with a tighter pitch (the distance between the individual LED pixels) produce a sharper image.

There are dozens of manufacturers, but the link below is an example.

Yep - the LED mesh on the side of Television Centre used for Children in Need is a pretty well-known example.
