The HardTalk set doesn't look too bad, but the lightbox above the set looks really fake on the iPlayer. May look better on TV.

That first pic gives us a nice view of the set, looks like it's almost done.

Well spotted! I agree, I'm sure it will look really good when done.

You may not see any more for a little while - the glass had some "no photos" signs on it when I was there last week.

You might just be able to make out in that picture a railing around the outside of the studio area (to prevent people walking right up to the glass from the outside), and what building regs refer to as 'manifestation' - some lines stuck onto the glass to stop people walking into it when it's been polished to well as to render it invisible.

I love the delicate tape on the floor in the newsroom camera point position..

Is it me, or is all this a little, well, disappointing?

I've been waiting for this moment for years. Searching the internet for any scrap of information on NBH since they demolished Egton house. Gutted at the endless delays. Getting more and more excited. Sad I know, but I love architecture, and I'm a news geek, so this for me has been a perfect storm.

So I tuned in eagerly as each programme moved in: the first Marr show, then the Sunday Politics, Newswatch and HardTalk in the VR studio, and now Newsnight.

And each time I felt the same... Hmmmm. It's nice. It's OK. It's just not... wow.

Were you expecting a Sky News style "OMG!!! WE'VE GOT A NEW STUDIO!!! LOOK AT ALL THE CAMERAS! AND PEOPLE! DOING WORK!" intro to the new building? Why should the new spaces make you go "Wow! Newsnight's so much better now it has an LED wall instead of rear projection"?

Anyway, the BBC has never really done "wow" on their news programming (except perhaps when they put the Barco's in N6 and we realised it wasn't as tiny as it looked). Add to that all the leaks of pictures of the set, and the slow introduction of programmes to the new studios, it's hardly surprising that there's no initial wonder at the new shows.

I think if anyone will do a big wow intro into the building it'll eb World of News 24 as they've 1. got the time and 2. are actually based in the main newsroom rather than just in a new studio.

Also, bear in mind that the BBC is under fire from all sorts of directions a lot of the time.

I hardly think now is a good time to be showing off "look how much we've spent on a massive project" during a recession. Yes, this is a delayed project with money from better times, but you have to take account of the current mood...

I think the fact we've seen the studios already in leaked photos or from other programmes already using them means that the "wow" hasn't come across. As has been said the gradual change in programming and moving over means it won't and shouldn't feel jarring and all new. As with Sky News move it was all at once and it wasn't leaked so it felt like a big deal.

If you think back to the initial set change in 2003 the titles didn't change for years after that as the beeb don't want to change everything in one go, it's partly why the barco backdrop has been designed to be vaguely similar to what we should end up with for real at NBH.

Some things I suspect will be nice, they'll use the space available, be it links from the spiral staircase, the toth camera, and the "ring" above the newsroom, probably more that we've not seen.

We've not seen much when it comes to the new studio for the NC and 1, 6 and 10 (Studio D?), so if it's a 'wow' you're looking for, I imagine it'll come then.

And, when everything is settled in, I'm sure quite a few people will be very happy, as they'll be no more using the same studio for everything, and suddenly they'll be in all these nice different studios!

The News channel have the newsroom set, not World.

I really hope they make good use of the studio, set and space much like they did in the 2003 era of News 24 (but I would say that, as it was my favourite era of the channel, the big box graphics aside).

I hope we have interviews from the newsroom and they'll take a camera out into it now and again, possibly with maybe a Bolton and Co style presentation at times.

I think it's down to a balance of light and shade which the news channel really doesn't have at the moment, with everything coming from the desk. Yes, we have Sport in Salford and Business from the Barco wall occasionally, but it's decidedly clinical and seems quite tired. I know News presentation isn't supposed to be 'wow' and in your face, but stale can be just as much of a turn off. It's striking the right balance. When I heard that the News channel and World's presentation styles will be more aligned in NBH, I can only hope it will be a good thing. That, and having a live newsroom in the background again.

Domestic News proved they could make use of a nice space during the 2010 election coverage, when they were in TC1. I know studio E isn't the same size, but I hope some of that success and more importantly technique, rubs off.
