Mr Daniel K, could I please ask why you are asking the most obscure and ridiculous questions known to man? 'Will they use an iPad for the weather in a wall dock', 'Will they just perch on desks if the regular studio is unavailable'. Why you feel the need to ask such stupid questions is beyond me.

BBC News has quite a few news studios at NBH. All of the studios will not be constantly in use. So why would they decamp to the newsroom if the studio broke? Do they do that now? No, they use another studio. So, why, in these new, vastly superior sstudios, which are HD, using Mozart, and all these other nice things, would they suddenly have to resort to an inferior system if the studio was unavailable?

And as for the iPad in a wall dock question from the other thread, well, why on earth would that be necessary?

Okay, what are they doing for elections? Moving the center desks from the newsroom and putting in a news desk or what?

The next election day will not be done from W1.

They've said that TVC will continue to be used as studios, so I presume TC1 will continue to be used for elections?

The issue will be the connectivity with the outside world which exists currently. There AFAIK been no discussion about the Central Apps Room. Without this, TC1 in itself is just a studio.

Could they do it from Salford?

One thing I noticed - why are they having their meeting sat on worktops? Didnt they think about putting meeting rooms into W1?

Presumably like most meeting rooms in any organisation there will often be the need for more people to meet than there are chairs

...and likely also people who don't want to sit on chairs and would much rather perch on the side of a table or whatnot to seem "kewl".

Very channel 5 once again Wink

I think they all ended up at the IBC.

Cheers Noggin, interesting info. I didn't know much about Lund Point but found out it's a 60's tower block the beeb utilised the top five floors of for their Olympics studios. It was really nice seeing the news and footage in HD, guess that's a glimpse of what's to come once it's all at NBH.

So do news feeds for Breakfast at Salford still downlink to TVC and then sent over to Salford?

If you dig back through the various Olympic threads, there are some pictures of the exterior of the building (and the nearby Dennison Point, which had Al Jazeera perched on top of it), plus some behind-the-scenes stuff.

While some regions do their own downlinking, Salford isn't one of them - so satellite OBs are still downlinked in London and sent up to the Breakfast gallery.

Seems a bit short sighted. Do sport have downlinking at Salford?

AIUI the Peel/SIS studios at Media City UK do have their downlink facilities (as they need to operate independently of the BBC as third party studios), there just isn't any point in the BBC running (and staffing) them separately in Salford if they already have them in London and enough connectivity between London and Salford (and enough staff to cope in London).

In days gone by there was only limited connectivity between BBC centres (often just two vision circuits each way), so downlinking locally made sense. These days there is a lot more connectivity, and thus more vision circuits, so doing everything locally doesn't make as much sense, particularly if it introduces duplication (and extra staff costs) over and above what is required for redundancy and resilience planning.

The next general election will be done from W1 in one of the virtual studios AFAIK.

I know the Jeremy Vine virtual bits will use Studio A in NBH. I was told that by one of the BBC News directors.

Does this mean that if the BBC had to evacuate TVC for some reason that Salford wouldn't be able to take any OB's via satellite?

No. Even if the BBC don't have their own downlink facilities at a particular site, they have connectivity to third parties (and other BBC operations) who can downlink for them.
