I used to work on a regional news programme that moved buildings and the our rehearsals were at 7:00, so we could get over all the packages and use the same live reporters.
Yes, there's no point in doing it. Testing/piloting/rehearsals are to get the new facilities ready to go on air, the old one isn't going to be part of it so there's no point involving it.
There's a lot more to it than just making sure the studio works too. They need to pilot the programmes from end to end, for example do the edit systems work and can the system cope with heavy demand
I would imagine it will be a pilot shadowing what's happening in N6 in the same way that they did a non-broadcast Match of the Day from Salford while TC5 was on air.
