Not taken them long to get the Bulldozers to Oxford Road then. Although I've not been to Manchester for a while now I can imagine the view being different on the train from Oxford Road to Piccadilly as you could easily see down the side of the BBC whilst on the train.

Is that Studio-A they're demolishing in that photo?

Yes - the 1990 extension I think, the original bit's still standing - scarily they've wasted no time with taking it down. Let's hope this isn't a Mill MkII and development is fast!

Not as iconic as Pebble Mill going mind as A) they removed the BBC signage from all around and B) the studios were at the back - had they left the signs up imagine how horrid a digger tearing through the sign would have looked!

BBC Studios and Post Production to relocate to Elstree Studios
7 August, 2012 | By George Bevir

BBC Studios and Post Production has announced it will relocate to Elstree Studios while BBC Television Centre is redeveloped.
BBC S&PP runs 12 studios at TVC, which the BBC is selling to property developer Stanhope for £200m.

BBC S&PP will be based at Elstree Studios from Spring 2013 until 2015, when it will return to the refurbished TVC.
Elstree Studios is half a mile away from BBC S&PP’s existing facilities at BBC Elstree, where EastEnders is based.

BBC S&PP, a commercial subsidiary of the BBC, said that between the two sites it would be able to offer a range of studios and stages for TV productions, including BBC Elstree’s 11,200 sq ft Studio D and Elstree Studios’ Stages 8 and 9 at 7,500 sq ft each and its 15,600 sq ft George Lucas Stage (pictured).

BBC S&PP’s HD kit will be relocated to Elstree Studios. The company’s digital media services business, which re-masters and manages content, will relocate to a permanent home in West London around the start of 2013, with the precise location yet to be confirmed.

BBC S&PP interim chief executive Clive Hodge said: “Our mix of studio facilities located at these two well-established complexes at Elstree provides an excellent working solution for our customers while Television Centre is being redeveloped.

“Our expert technical, creative and project management staff will all be moving with us and we’ll be investing in both Elstree Studio sites to ensure we continue to provide our clients with the range of services and experience they have come to expect from us.”

Elstree Studios managing director Roger Morris added: “We are already the home to Dancing on Ice, Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, Big Brother, and this year The Voice and Red or Black.

“Now, having the expertise, management and technical resources of BBC S&PP working with us, combined with the significant investments we are both making in the studios, I cannot imagine a better offering in the facilities market place for television produce

Makes sense to be near the existing BBC Elstree operation. Interesting move. AIUI BBC Studios have already used some of the Elstree Studios as four-wallers with OB trucks when the BBC Elstree site has been busy.

Hopefully this will also see greater use of the existing large studio at BBC Elstree.

I'm surprised they're not making more use of BBC Elstree. There must be a lot of empty office space there which can be used for the various post production services. Is there only one spare studio (D) at Elstree?

There's been a BBC bus service from TVC to Elstree since EastEnders started, I expect that will have to be ramped up a fair bit for the move

Does Elstree count as moving production to the regions? It's A bit too north of London for many guests. <Wink>

Well BBC Studios don't hande any chat shows and guests for panel shows are paid 6 figure sums, so I don't see the problem. Wink

Pretty much - all the other studios (well the studio floors) are used by EastEnders these days I believe.

And Holby's sets take up a few floors of office space in Neptune House ISTR.

Don't think there is much useful space there, and I suspect post production clients want to be nearer central London?

Slightly political point. ISTR that BBC staff who worked there got London weighting...

Is Holby still there?

Think so - it wasn't moving to Cardiff was it?

Aren't Post moving to an un-named West London location in 2013?
