Personally I think the Granada studios are just as iconic as TVC

Oh come on... TVC is identifiable the world over.

This building is more widely identified and recognised
http://www.bobthebrit.net/wp-content/uploads/2009/02/bbc-television-centre.jpg

than this building

People all over the country (and probably many from abroad) can name programmes made at TVC, whereas they're going to struggle with Granada. The Granada studios may well be locally and even regionally iconic, but TVC is the UK icon of television production. It may not have been first, or even best, but that hasn't stopped it from becoming ingrained in the public's perception of what a TV centre is.

I don't want this to degenerate in to a granada/tvc tit for tat thread......my point was that TVC was built as a concept from the beginning although the earlier built Granada was added to and enlarged modularly as and when need necessitated. Two great buildings, both with a history and both should be maintained in some form rather than demolished and lost.

TVC was built in stages, although they were roughly planned from the start.

Aren't they the UK's first purpose built TV studios?

Yep, definitely the first purpose built TV studios in the UK. So I would say more iconic than Television Centre!

Really? Really? More Iconic Rolling Eyes Buy a dictionary.

From the OED Online, as a draft addition:

iconic, adj. , designating a person or thing regarded as representative of a culture or movement; important or influential in a particular (cultural) context.

In this sense, it is perfectly fine to say "more iconic".

Maybe it is a north / south thing. I had no idea what the Granada building looked like until that photo was posted.

But anyway - aren't we going a little off topic? Back to posting more sexy photos of BH!

Oooh, it looks like a miniature pres area - presumably where people on the tours can have a play?

On Broadcasting House' studios, a table has been added to it's wikipedia article (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Broadcasting_House) that lists the studios but it is very bare at the moment. As long as there is a reference to that studio then it can be added.

It looks that way.

It seems a bit silly to have the swirls on the background if they're going to be out of date by the time the move takes place.

Iconic or not, BBC TV Centre definitely looks much less of an eyesore than the ugly 1950's Granada TV office block.
The only decent looking part of that was the classic red GRANADA TV light up sign they took down a while back.

Is there a source other than the single post on this forum claiming the swirls are going? They're certainly present on the renders of the new studios.

Swirls are going from the backdrops as they're real this time around! Infact swirls stay on all the artificial newsroom loops. Swirls aren't departing from the brand although there is a new emphasis on the 'cradle' of place names, so expect to see more of that!
