I was speaking to George Alagiah at work last week about when he's moving into the new building, he said I
Move in at the start of September.

How odd that the flag glass design was put up in 1998 and within a year it was out of date - but has stayed there ever since.

Yes because it was worth spending money asking people to remove it when they knew TVC's days were numbered!

I wasn't questioning why it hasn't been taken down, I was just saying how it's odd that the design was out of date by the following year - but has not changed since.

even the smaller scale shows like The One Show that would have used a smaller studio can be more cheaply accomodated in White City.

Although the rumour has it that The One Show is moving to W1.

It looks like the long term plan is for the BBC to quit W12 altogether. Will pres be moving to W1 as well?

That's all outsourced to Red Bee, so isn't a BBC concern as to where they're based.

They have already back peddled on selling TV Centre completely and I understand changes are still being made. Its nothing to do with actual cost savings any decent accountant came make a project look good/bad/cheap/expensive, its about politics and perception. Before Sky & Murdoch were shafted things looked bleaker for the BBC now times have moved on and so has the train of thought.

I would say that nothing is decided until the new DG is in place to make the announcements.

They have already back peddled on selling TV Centre .

Isn't that simply because the "preferred buyer" pulled out.

I don't think the listing of the building helped either.

Re: the flags in the newsroom - weren't they coloured back in the days when they were used on air? They're far less noticeable when it's just the patterns on the glass.

Which is why I am surprised that the whole of the Granada TV lot, in Manchester, is not listed as that is older than Television Centre, and purpose built for the job just as much as Television Centre was.

Not quite as iconic though.

Is there anything left these days that isn't "iconic"? A word that is bandied about so much nowadays it's been rendered completely meaningless. Sorry, it just makes my skin crawl every time I hear or read that word now.
