Looking at www.bbcbroadcast.com, there's some really nice work on there, including of course the much praised new News 24 countdown, so it could be promising news for some decent ITV idents. I'm guessing there may be some glum faces at Bruce Dunlop Associates today.

Even though I am glad ITV had ditched BD&A after their recent attempts, I am also surprised, as ITV has only just got their ITV Day lok off them.

Must be a very glum day for BDA, as IIRC they have created nearly all of ITV's logos and idents since the late 1990's, as they brought us the Hearts, the Celebrities and the Squares.

Though I'll be interested to see how (the soon to be privatised) BBC Broadcast will develop ideas for ITV. Though I'm guessing they'll be going for something brand new, which is really long overdue. Hopefully it may mean goodbye to the current [i t v] logo.

It wasnt all bad, the 2002 look was best, and the ITV1 2003 was okay, just a little messy, but it was since ITV2's revamp it went downhill, although ITV2's look was quite nice. The current ITV1 look is well, its so bad, but the christmas look was quite nice. Also, with a complete rebrand, that means they have to change all the logos on their regional buildings, computers, TV, all websites, a big challange by the Aututmn isnt it?

The BBC managed it a few years ago. But ITV will no doubt leave bits... good branding and consistency isn't exactly their thing is it?

More exciting than the plain BBC.

*snort*. As bad as some of the BBC branding may be, it's no-where near as boring as ITV's Presentation!

How can it be boring, the variety of idents they've provided on ITV1 over the last 3 weeks?, along with the fact that the main ones are fairly rare these days that they actually 'do what they say on the tin' and don't try to be anything they are not.
Also the fact that if Doctor Who was on ITV1, you know they would have made special idents for it.

At least the awful curent look gives "central" a name at last instead of being
itv1 carlton for central England
Carlton central on itv1
this is itv1 carlton(even when carlton is no more)
or the worse one we had was
ITV1
itv 1 for the central lengland region

At least its now itv1central

Lucky you - I havent seen an itv1 Tyne Tees ident for ages. Before local programmes, we get a generic ident and the v/o promotes the programme thats on in half an hour. The only exception seems to be soccer night, still a generic ident but the programme is mentioned. Presumably though there is a soccer night on most regions so the same anno is played out.

You get a generic ident into Tyne Tees Soccer Night because it also goes out on Border.

Didn't English & Pockett design the Hearts idents, rather than BDA?

Yes they did..
from thetvroom:

The ITV logo was designed by English & Pockett. Although the logo launched in October 1998, new station idents were not released until November 1999. The logo was used within programme promotions and on marketing material from late 1998 though. Carlton launched a new set of idents in September 1999 but these were designed by Lambie-Nairn.

If Dr Who was on ITV1 they would create an incredibly tacky ident... something similar to the BBC trail. Some of us prefer quality.
