Two of my personal favourites that i'd like to see return is Bottom and Shooting Stars. A fourth series of Bottom was rejected by "some BBC bitch" according to Rik Mayall a year or two after the third series, (continuity even claimed a fourth series would be made) and Vic Reeves had announced the BBC rejected a new series of Shooting Stars after news of it returning.

Interesting, I have read that they wrote the Fourth Series but didn't do it as they said they "had run out of things to hit each other with in the Kitchen"

Not if thames had anything to do with it! but I agree with you

Not so much Strike it Lucky, but I'd like to see My Kind of Music return - probably the last format Barrymore had on TV before the media found him guilty.

Though I wasn't personally a fan, I think a return of Gladiators is highly likely considering it's happening in Australia and America - and when you consider ITV's new weekend policy it would fit in perfectly.

Talking old game shows though, I'd like to see Cluedo return. Think it would work well on BBC4 or something, and the BBC could have an interactive version too.

Who would host Cluedo though? Not Manic Madeley again surely...

It's not a remake, but I reckon someone should do a TV version of the board game Articulate.

Older viewers will always be nostalgic for something they enjoyed, but tastes change. Why is it necessary to make the next generation of viewer watch the same old programmes (albeit with a new cast).

I don't think the 1990s viewer would be happy with 1950s programmes, so why should the 2010+ viewer want to watch someting revamped from 1980?

If they can't come up with something new then at least they could pretend that they are. There is no need to blatantly admit that something is a remake.

Original PROPER Thames version was Strike It Lucky whilst the Independent for LWT for ITV was Strike it Rich!!!!

As for Only Fools returning.. I remember there was rumour that The Green Green Grass was going to feature Del and Rodney as kids - how wrong that was. I agree it should have finished for good in 1996, it was the perfect ending really. John Sullivan's scripting on the last few in the early 2000s were still very funny but it had lost its relative appeal imo.

I seem to recall David Jason being adamant he would not appear as Del in it, not sure about Nick Lyndhurst though

apart from Paul Barber I don't think any of the other characters have done guest appearences

Remakes either go as a success or a failure...

Crossroads Mk2 - success
Doctor Who - success
Auf Weidersehen Pet! - success
Dr Finlay's Casebook - success
The Tomorrow People - success
All Star Family Fortunes - success
New Bullseye with Dave Spikey - success
plus many others.

Crossroads Mk3 - failure
The Price Is Right - failure
Supermarket Sweep - failure
plus many others...

If anything I think its about production values, direction of the programmes and most importantly how the viewer visualises the re-incarnation whether they think its as sgood as or worse than the original - again dependent upon direction and production!!!!!

I wonder if this poll was taken before or after News at Ten's return was announced?

As I've said in relation to that, revivals seem to fall into two traps. Either they keep things exactly as they were and they feel dated, or they change so much in an effort to bring it up to date all the charm of the original is lost, and it's pretty much doomed to failure.

It's a very delicate balance to strike really.

Not sure if this has been mentioned before, but rumour has it that Mr & Mrs will return on ITV-- hosted by Phil and Fern. That was reported in The Sun ; so pinch, salt and all that.

Not hard with the original Bullseye or Crossroads ! Laughing Although part of the appeal of those two shows originally, was that they were naff; as Peter Kay and Victoria Wood respectively have pointed out.

Well both new versions of Crossroads were awful. A bit like The Royal Today just cashing in on a popular brand.

Although the original seems to be back 'in fashion' the latest DVD of the original episodes was a best seller on the Network DVD site for the past week or so.

So had Carlton not knackered it up, I guess Granada might have revived it to fill a daytime gap now. Although Granada hated how popular the original was and had it on at 3.55pm when the rest of the UK had it a lot later.

I'm not sure the fans of the show thought it was naff, I mean there is this thing 'people watched it because it was awful' but that doesn't explain why the same 18 million then voted for it and its cast in awards year after year, which it often beat Corrie/ its stars to.

Bullseye was cheap fun, I don't think the new slicker style would work for all game shows, you'd not want Blankety Blank all expensive and polished. It worked by being ropey.
